Anime kids with no parents

Ok I have seen several shows with this, surely you have too. Teenagers that live in an apartment or house all by themselves. With absolutely no parental guidance or supervision. You could say that their parents died and they have no where to live. But wouldn't they be put in a foster home or something. And they always seem to have enough money to pay for things with out a job. Sure you could say that someone sends them money. But If someone is willing to give them money why don't they just live with them. So that way they can actually have some type of parental influence in their lives. Yes I realize that it is just a show and doesn't have to be realistic. So don't give me that line. All I'm wondering is, is this common in Japan or do the animators just not feel like giving the characters any kind of parental figures.

They're also usually never seen doing homework, and instead, they're out saving the day or just constantly hanging out with their friends. Their grades should be crap.

It's anime. The last thing anyone ever thinks about is realism. End of story.

[color=#2e1a6b]They don't explain where there income is from because they usually don't need to. Anime is centered around stuff like fighting, romance, and adventure. Personal income rarely has an effect on the plot, so they can ignore it.

If they really wanted to, they could just say "my grandpa/rich-friend pays my expenses"[/color]

It is not common at all but it happens.
To go to good high school, if you are from truly unpopulated rural mountain or isolated island, there is an option to stay under the close observation of the mistress.
Second, as it happens anywhere, the family affair let her or him to be alone. The job transfer or the split force the kids to live alone, that's what I experienced in the middle of teens. Of course it is not often. If those kids are well fed, neighbors don't regard it as child neglect.
After all, to live alone without the interference from their parents is always a preferable imaginary of the teens and the anime or manga have realized it in the story. And in those stories are the characters from middle class, not of harsh poverty because they must be fantasies.

And the implications of a child living alone could be:

1.Dead parents/no other relatives
2.Family problems/small boarding house close to school
3.Overseas work/workaholic parents
4.Boarding at an academy
5.Rich fag
6.Home is too far away from school of interest
7.Enough insurance money from dead parents

Ok, besides the obvious stuff I gave out that other people mentioned, I will mention part about a person willing to lend you money.
For one, the child/teen in question may feel uneasy around the person. Why trust a person so easily that's willing to pay and live with you for the sake of your miserable life? Second, not everyone is nice from the bottom of their hearts. Money is power, so that person could be "buying" you under the pretense of taking pity on you and giving a good life.

There are also some stories that begin like this, but the child will end up having a parental figure later on in the story.
And all too often you'll see parents as straight laced, "choose your placement in society", and "be a good obedient child that the family can show like a trophy". You'll see that in some anime/manga like Usagi Drop or My Girl(Mizu Sahara) that not the MC but minor characters that MC may deal with have parents portrayed them as little trophies that they ignore whatever wrong they do, and families where the problem is great but the child can't speak of it due to mentality of trying to deal with it with out gov't authority or local law(Iris Zero or Otaku no Musumesan).

I know have flaws within this argument, but so be it. Feel free to correct me on this.

i actually think ash makes money from fighting trainers and winning money kind of like the games. yeah, i agree that shows like naruto where sasuke and naruto were living twelve years without parents didnt make sense to me. I guess they had a caretaker since they were little until they could take care of themselves, then they would just collect welfare until they r able to make income themselves.

This isn't as entirely unlikely as it seems. Throughout both middle school and high school I lived by myself for months on end sometimes a year or more would go by until I would get to see my dad than he would be gone again in a month or so. This was because my dad (much like the parents of teenagers in most anime) worked overseas and was allowed to come home based on how long he spent working. Ironically I spent allot of time watching anime and relating to how it was living alone while your parents are off somewhere else. Oh and as for rent and food I had a bank account set up so it wasn't much of a problem to pay bills.

It makes it a lot more interesting if they have to fend for themselves, perhaps they refuse to rely on someone and want to be independent to prove they can do it as a result of the possibility of their parents abandoning them or them working/living overseas.

There could be a number of reasons as to why they are alone, and perhaps the creators of the series believe it to be an unnecessary plot line to inform why, though if that is the case it would probably deepen the story and make it a bit more interesting if they were to provide a back story to characters living conditions. But they do sometimes provide one. A typical reason for them living alone is usually parents working/living overseas, and this is only ever briefly mentioned and subsequently followed by the main plot of the story.
