Bakemonogatari 13

After a couple weeks of delays the animators finally get around to releasing it. According to GG's website: "They spend all of this time encoding it according to the staff blog, and Bakemonogatari 13 is a 640×360 365mb flash file." The quality of this is not what I was hoping for. I've been used to downloading 335 mb files with much larger resolution and if it weren't for the crazily awesome plot I might've bailed on it. I'm not sure if the degradation in quality is GG's fault to xfering this from a flash file to a mkv or if thats how it looked like when it was webcast but I'm not happy with it.

If you've been watching lesser quality streams of this then you probably won't notice a difference but I can barely watch it anymore. The looks of this is what sold me and it no longer has a nice crisp feeling to it.

Why oh why did they have to do webcasts of this? I guess this is one of their motivators in order to make you buy the blu-ray discs when they come out.

Also, Hanekawa is hot.

Well lets hope that GG releases a v2 that looks decent. I for one have no idea how to add subtitles to a flash file except to either hardsub it or split the streams, reencode it, and pack it into an mkv file which is what I bet they did. They probably will make a v2 because I noticed a few errors in the timing and the spelling was off - must've worked late into the night.

Oh God this one was more of the already-classic Bakemonogatari feel, quality of the downloaded file aside. I feel it was worth the wait, personally.

Also, HELL YES Hanekawa is hot. I knew this would happen. >:

Let's not be over-dramatic. Certainly it's in a smaller resolution and looks a little blurry, but it's not eye-bleedingly bad. That kind of 'quality' can really only be achieved by rmvb files. Although, Tsubasa and Hitagi's hair color has apparently changed (I guess it might be from the flv to mkv transfer). Additionally, if it's "the looks" that sold you, then ... lol.


Because 15 episodes don't fit in a 12/13 episode season. Also, remember that the only reason anime appears on TV at all is to promote DVD/BD sales.

As for the episode, well it was awesome as expected. I was bit annoyed at Tsubasa getting angry with Araragi. She was the one who was wearing pajamas with apparently no bra on underneath. Also, she was the one holding onto Araragi on the bike from behind when Hitagi has already shown that it's possible to ride side-saddle.

Hahaha so true. Let's all just walk outside naked and yell at everyone when they stare at us! That'll show 'em! And I did say the plot was CRAZILY AWESOME right?

If you're being sarcastic, I don't much appreciate it. This episode, like certain others, offered a good insight into an important character. In this case, it was Hanekawa

While it's true, that a stick figure show could have the most amazing plot ever and no one would watch it. That's just not the case. Sure, it may not be the quality you are used to, but it's far from shit.

I might've come off as sarcastic but I in no way intended to be. I fuckin' love this show. Just hate how its getting bad quality encodes.

What's wrong with rmvb? It's pretty much decent considering the fact that it's "quality" equals avi files of double size? Well you can blame it on me not having monitor with 2000+ resolution, but I don't find them that bad.


As for the episode... molesting scene was awesome. :D But my impression was certainly affected by the quality of release, let's just say I enjoyed it but will be waiting for the DVD/BR version, just for the eye candy.

If you can barely watch it, just don't watch it at all and wait for the BD/DVD release.

Seriously just enjoy the story, and wait for the BD/DVD. And you guys need to be "more down to earth" It's the same "crappy" Quality and resolution with the webcast. gg just subbed it, they didn't "modify" it to become that "crappy"

I misspoke a bit. I don't have anything against rmvb as a file type. However, rmvb files usually are under 80 MB. And at that size, it doesn't fucking matter what format it's in, a 25-minute episode WILL LOOK LIKE SHIT. Even at 640x480. That's worse than normal quality YouTube videos. I've seen it for myself.

Episode 13 was great ^_^

I'm surprised that no one is even talking about the actual plot and show...

I want to spark again the discussion of this thread considering the next episodes will probably only be released in the dvd's or in a few months as no news whatsoever to their release has been given.

From what I've gathered (without having read Kizumonogatari past chapter 4; thanks again baka-tsuki) this episode reflects the relationship between Hanekawa and Araragi.

It is clear if you guys go back to every encounter that he and her have had starting back at the Nadeko Arc that whenever she is with Araragi she starts having these headaches which are a symptom of her "meddlesome cat" which in turn makes Hanekawa into an "evil" (sort of a Black Hanekawa even though she's so white :D) entity.

Thus we can come to the conclusion that the person responsible for Hanekawa's stress (this time around) is Araragi-kun. We can furthermore speculate that it's actually Araragi's relationship with Senjougahara. Is it jealousy, realised feelings etc. I don't know. However what is pretty obvious is that there is something going on between Hanekawa and Araragi even though Araragi constantly denies it.

Araragi feels that he owes a huge debt to Hanekawa due to their chance meeting last spring. He is pretty sure that he owes her his life and until that debt is paid off he will do anything to make sure he repays it.

I might go on and speculate that it's pretty much the same situation as to how Senjougahara regarded Araragi after he saved her. Remember how reluctant (actually uncomfortable or unwilling would probably be a better choice of words here) he was to her advances/flirting and even how he reacted when she confessed to him?

Again speculating, but I believe that Hanekawa likes Araragi more than a simple friend but due to Araragi's attitude towards the help she gave him that resulted in saving him she can't be honest nor actually confess to him due to the fear of him only accepting//refusing due to his attitude towards her.

So I'm back to saying that Hanekawa's stress this time around is due to Araragi.

With that being said, I'm wondering how episode 14 will be and what will happen between our protagonists.

So please post what you think will happen? Also what are your actual thoughts of episode 13?

Well usually I would say Araragi would go with the way he handled Suruga and let himself get beat to shit, but he went about confronting Hanekawa's problem differently. Which is to say, he talked to her first before going to Oshino with the situation.

Given that, I'd say that Araragi will get beaten up a bit, but Hanekawa will intervene, causing the two to have a conversation about the feelings for the other. At that point, Araragi will most certainly make a critical decision. Go for Hanekawa or stay with Hitagi. Now you might say that something like that is a simple choice (I personally would stay with Hitagai), but I caught the feeling he has a few feelings for her other than just outright loyalty. Of course, that could just be me, but since this is a discussion...

There's simply not enough information to speculate with.


Well, that's an interesting perspective. Even if Tsubasa isn't in love with Araragi, she may still feel pressured by his complete devotion to paying her back. However, Tsubasa's problem started with an entirely different set of circumstances. Her "parents" were the origin of her issues and she had to deal with them every day, and we are given no hint that even a fraction of her time with them was pleasant. Tsubasa seems to at least enjoy Araragi's company, and aside from paying her back and talking about Hitagi, there's nothing there that would cause her stress.

It seems like I hit it right on the mark with what I thought. Just checked the raw and though my understanding of japanese is so-so I got the main lines of the episode.

Until It's been translated I'll hold off on comenting on it too much but so far it was pretty awesome.
