I was wondering. I saw some Studio Ghibli productions. (I think you all know it)
But I haven't seen all of them..
But since I'm kinda busy I can't just simply get down the list, because it just takes too much time.
So my question:
what is/are the best Studio Ghibli production(s)??
I think the best one I've seen by now is Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi (spirited away)
If someone doesn't like the Studio Ghibli productions at all.. PLease say so and also why ofcourse..
(other fav's are welcome too.. but try to keep it a Studio Ghibli production xD)
Princess Mononoke. It has, great fights, great story, amazing animation, superb voice acting, and beautiful music. Whats not to like? And a guy gets his arms ripped off by a arrow. That's right, you heard me, a arrow. That's just fucking epic right there.
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind was good (the fire giant at the end was beast). Castle in the Sky another good one. And you can't go wrong with Princess Mononoke.
My Neighbor Totoro was the one I grew up with while also watching Animal Treasure Island and Panda Go Panda, but those last 2 were made before Ghibli. I believe I also watched Grave of the Fireflies as well when I was a child, it was really good and even now it is still good. It outdoes itself in not just being an animated movie but also being a good WW2 movie period. Nausicca is good but the problem is that you can feel how outdated the movie is due to the music and whatnot. Laputa still holds strong for me and is also one of my favs, it has that timeless classic story feel to it. Kiki's Delivery Service is also one of those cute ones I actually like. Spirited Away was probably the last movie they made I liked strongly. What came afterwards were just meh. Tales of Earthsea, Ponyo, and Howl's did not leave lasting impression on me. Other good movies that they made were Pom Poko which I thought was an interesting and humorous cartoon to appeal to younger audience of environmental issues, but I suppose all Ghibli films have some sort of environmental message in them with some flight scene. Whisper of the Heart was actually a decent romance in my opinion, it wasn't bad. Cats Return was meh, it didn't feel quite as strong as some of the other ones, it's not bad but it wasn't all that great. Pocco de Rosso was also one of those that wasn't bad but was not really all that great. It is kind of hard to make a decision though on what is my personal fav. though. Most people generally just choose the first one that they watched and grew up with. Btw, anybody seen Karigurashi no arrietty yet?
Grave of the Fireflies: I feel like this is one of those movies that needs to be watched while you're in a certain mood. The first time I tried to watch it, I fell asleep. Second time I tried, my eyes kept watering up throughout the movie and my nose got all runny lol. I think it's an emotionally powerful movie.
Howl's Moving Castle: I loved this for its imaginative story, art, characters, but most of all: for its music. It all came together so well, and is one I've watched multiple times.
Totoro: Classic childhood movie, and one that turned around my fear of the darkness as a kid. Broke my heart when I went to Japan as a kid and never met Totoro haha.
My Neighbor Totoro; one of the first influences that got me to start liking anime and manga, it's an overall great movie with a family friendly story that still retains enjoyment for all ages.
Why are you making us choose? They're all so good that...that...no! We cannot choose!
Totoro was the first Ghibli film I watched, so I have a special spot in my heart for it. I have lots of totoro products because I love the movie so much. Catbus ftw!
Best graphics: Spirited Away/Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi (phew, long title). The level of detail was just so amazing. Howl's Moving Castle was awesome too.
Best score is a tossup between Nausicaa and Mononoke. Joe Hisaishi did such amazing jobs for both of those films.
Best story...gah, can't choose. I think it's a tossup between Nausicaa and Spirited Away.
