I may not be the show's no.1 fanboy but I know quality when I see it.
(or expect it after seeing a
Madhouse tag ...)
Dennou Coil tells a
cute, touching and subtly paced story about a group of kids existing in a future where cyberspace has basically become a part of reality. All you have to do is put on a special set of glasses and woot! - the boring ass world around you gains a ton of additional action and content. Sounds like every computer geek's paradise doesn't it ? Well ... Yasako, Isako and few others will show you that it's not all fun and games and that this new world holds many secrets
... and dangers.
Honestly - I feel like anything I'll write will fail to describe the series properly. As I noted before, it's from Madhouse and I assume that many of you will understand my drift - it will be
unique and of awesome quality.
For me the main selling point of the show was how well the two
intertwining realities are portrayed and put together.
The piece of the real world we are given is nothing like you would expect - a quiet, small, peaceful town, full of shrines and people that know each other. Kinda like Hinamizawa but without all them psychotic murderers :P
The cyberspace that is skillfully woven into it is also unorthodox and intriguing with many cool and funny entities roaming it.
A subtle, story about friendship, loss and buried secrets set in a very unique setting full of
charm and urban legends. Kinda like a serialized Spirited Away with virtual reality replacing magic ...
The distribution rights chased all the good stuff off Youtube so all I can provide are screencaps:
