Fan Translations in the far past

I decided to pick up One Piece and the consistency of the translation constantly changes. It's okay, I guess. I mean I can still read it and comprehend-able so there's no isn't really a reason to complain. The quality of translations have changed over time though and it has improved.


But seriously, Gum Gum Bullet in contrast to Gum Gum Burette? Thanks guys.

Spoiler of One Piece

I rarely read manga online any more unless it's hentai manga so... this isn't a fan translation but in the official physical copy of volume 10 of Shugo Chara that I own there a few empty speech bubbles. Volumes 1-9 were done by Delrey and then Kodansha Comics took over for the rest of the volumes.

What a great start to beginning to translate a series already in progress by not even putting words in the bubbles, and they're supposed to be professional companies

No one read the same way. Translating differ from dialects, learning and internal translations.. You read one word and there three or more ways to decipher it.

I was just at a Barnes and Nobles for the first time in a year and I saw this publishing company. Just looking at the book it felt the same as TokyoPop.

Back on topic, that's interesting... Viz had the same problem with the placement of text inside speech bubbles in Yu-gi-oh as well in the mid 2000s. There were different font sizes everywhere and you could see the white text boxes obstructing the backgrounds.



Not so much as that, but the names were consistently changing. Vivi, the official English name(don't know about the Japanese Official), was written as Bebe and BB. Conis, from Skypeia was Konis(makes sense), Konisu and Gonis. Enel was Eneru...

I recognize that this was due to the translation of names that might not have been given romanization at the time of creation so there might not have been a way to check the names.
