[General] Just how many Fates are there?

Hey guys

Just bought Fate/Extra and it made me look into different characters that I found in the game but while searching in the Wikia page. It mentioned different routes which each routes some characters end differently like how Shirou ended up in different girls or something in each unique routes.

Now my question is: Just how many routes are there in total in the Fate series. I only know about the Fate/Stay Night (My first into this series), Fate/Zero (The new anime) and Fate/Extra.

I am not well informed with this series so I want to know about the different routes so I can check them out/watch them or play them etc..

Fate/Stay Night has 3 different routes. The first one "Fate" got an anime adaptation, the second one "Unlimited Blade Works" got a movie adaptation, lastly, Heaven's Feel is the only one still in VN format.

Fate/Realta Nua is the name given to the PS2 port.

Fate/Zero covers the 4th holy grail war, written by Gen Urobuchi (NitroPlus, made Madoka). It is a novel and got adapted into an anime.

Fate/Hollow Ataraxia, is a fan-disc, a sequel to Fate/Stay Night. I personally don't know much about this one.

Then you got a whole bunch of Fate/*insert something* games made for fans.

Hentanize pretty much covered it all, except for Fate/Prototype. That was basically the long-ago prototype version of F/SN that Kiniko Nasu wrote, before reworking it into the Fate/Stay night now popular in anime and VN media.

Your supposed to start with the Fate Stay/Night VN right? I have yet to play/watch anything in this series, is it any good? I know a lot of people like it but are they just overrating it or is actually pretty good?

F/SN is a good starting point considering it was the first one of the series. For how good it is let me say that there's a reason why it's the most popular title on vndb. For all the hate it may get from some people it's still very widely enjoyed. Personally, I loved it and I would recommend it. As far as overrating it goes it depends on what you're looking for. Each route within the VN itself has different things to offer the reader ranging from action and fighting to character development and internal conflict.

For me the prologue was too long and mostly boring but after I'd past that point it was solid gold.

If you haven't been randomly spoiled (because that can happen on the internet) you're in for a treat. The "vanilla" route is what made me love the franchise but you have to play all 3 of them to understand why it's one of the best "fantasy" VNs out there.

Fate/Extra is a spin-off. Just a new story, using elements and lores from the original.

while the original was restricted to only 7 masters and 7 servants, on which servant cannot be the same class, Fate/Extra spiced up the Holy Grail war into a massive tournament, meaning that there are More "heroic spirits" to be shown and more battles to experience. but of course it will saturate the drama for it's gameplay.

Honestly, there are still "heroic spirits" that I'm wondering about owned by other participants. Other participants sometimes describes a trait of their servant when talking to them.

Just a note about Fate/Extra: Look on the internet for the patterns. It's a great game, but the patterns are very annoying especially on the higher levels of the game. Also, you can play this game spoiler-free. It doesn't reveal anything about the plot in any of the Fate series.

I stopped playing it since it got too time consuming for me. I always make sure I level up at least once in the Arena but then, it starts to take about an hour (yes, an hour) to level up and you can't save in the middle of it. I would like to at least finish the first route though. (Saber, and I haven't reached the split point yet). Although the doujins of Caster here make me want to start a new save with Caster.

Unlimited fates are unlimited, nuff said.

Thanks I actually sort of re-watch the whole series like so;

1) Watched Fate/Zero
2) Re-Watched Fate/Stay Night
3) Then I watched Realta Nua ending in youtube. (That was a nice ending)
4) Watched Fate/Unlimited blade works.

With that placement I now understand the story timelines much better. So now that I feel content with the story of the anime it's time to play some games of it.

Currently I have Fate/Extra and I heard that "Realta Nua" is actually coming out in the PS Vita (Which btw piss me off since I have convince myself that I don't want a ps vita but now I'm having second thoughts with this release).

But my new question is - Can you tell me games revolving around the Fate Universe. I only know

- Fate/Stay Night (I do have 1 question bout this game - Is Realta Nua available on PC? - Cause I hate to get a vita just to play Realta Nua and I dislike the idea of buying an old ps2 console.)

- Fate/Extra

- Fate/Tiger Colosseum

- Fate/Unlimited Codes (Can anyone tell me how I can download this game - I can't buy it on the psn store anymore?)

- Fate/Hollow Ataraxia (Is this game translated already?)

Apart from the one's I mentioned I don't know any other so if I missed any games please do tell me so I can search them out.

1)By "revolving around the Fate Universe" do you mean that they take place in the nasuverse (The universe fate takes place in.) like Tsukihime and Mahoutsukai no Yoru or just that they have fate in the name and take place around a holy grail war of some kind.

2)Realta Nua is available on PC though it's digital only, you have to buy it by route and i don't know if the patch works on that version but there is a way to add all the Realta Nua stuff (Voices etc.) on to the original 18+ PC version through mirror moon's patch but you need the Realta Nua game file to do that, it used to be on here but i'm not sure anymore, hopefully somebody else can explain it better.

3)Fate/Hollow Ataraxia is 84.2% translated you can find the partal patches on Tlwiki.

The only difference between F/SN and the Realta Nua ver. is that Realta Nua is the "for-all-ages" ver. (No sex scenes), but makes up for it with additional content/scenes and VOICE for the characters.

There's a setting that will let you take ONLY the Additional Content and Voice from the Realta Nua and put it into your F/SN game (the sex scenes stay, bro), so if you want it, go for it.

By playing the F/SN Visual Novel, you'll come to love and despise characters so much more than how much you love/hate them now. The Anime does no justice for what the game has in store for you.

Fate/Extra is more of an AU (Alternate Universe) of F/SN, with the differences that Kaimax has already stated.

Fate/Tiger Colosseum is a cute, 4-player Royal Rumble of characters from the Fate Series. I have no idea if it's available in english, but it's pretty cute from what I can tell from the trailer :)

Fate/Unlimited Codes is more in the line of the simple combat of the Street Fighter Series combined with the complex mechanics of the Tekken series. You can download this game in the Internet.

There is an American and English version.

I recommend the Japanese ver. (since it contains some english anyway) for the hardcore player, since the English ver. simplifies the moves so much, it's kinda cute when compared between the two.

Fate/Hollow Ataraxia is, again, available here in FAKKU, but the english patch is still being, well, translated. It's nearly done, give it 6-months to a year. But when it finally comes out, it'll all be worth it. So while you're still waiting, I advice you download the game now so when the english patch comes, you'll be able to play it right away :)

Most of the people have already stated this but I'll give a little more information without spoiling:

Fate/Prototype: The first title of the series that Nasu created. As the name implies it is a prototype and was never released to the market. This was the time when the Main Character was a girl and Saber was a man. The editors decided that they should make the Main Character a guy and Saber a woman so it'll appeal to the market available and thus Fate/Stay Night was born.
Fate/Prototype has released a PV but no other announcements were made regarding this.

Fate/Stay Night: The first title to be released and sold to the market. It contains 3 routes; Fate, Unlimited Blade Works and Heaven's Feel. Each of the routes are a branch and talks about different aspects of the Holy Grail War. Fate talks about the nature of the Holy Grail War and is mostly an introduction with most of the focus on Saber as the heroine and her past. Fate only have one ending. Unlimited Blade Works talks more about the other Servants and Shirou's ideal as the Ally of Justice. The main heroine in this route is Rin. Unlimited Blade Works have 2 endings, one Good End and one True End. Heaven's Feel goes in depth about the system of the Holy Grail War and expands on the true nature of the Holy Grail. This is the route where Sakura is the main heroine. Heaven's Feel have 2 endings, one Normal End and one True End.
Fate/Realta Nua is the PS2 adaptation of the game is basically an All-Ages version with all the sex removed and additional scenes inserted.

Fate/Hollow Atraxia: It is the fan disk that also doubles as the sequel to Fate/Stay Night. It introduces new characters and again goes more into about the Holy Grail.

Fate/Zero: This is the Light Novel turned Anime written by Gen Urobuchi with illustrations by Takashi Takeuchi. The series is about the Fourth Holy Grail War, the one before Fate/Stay Night, which features Shirou's father, Emiya Kiritsugu as the protagonist.

Fate/EXTRA: This game is set in an Alternate Universe(as Uzumaki had said) where magic and mana is obsolete. Instead, magi uses their powers to "hack". The stage is set in the SERAPH or Serial Phantasm and the Holy Grail War system is different from Fate/Stay Night. While Fate/Stay Night uses the "Throne of Heroes" system, where only those that are recognize as Heroic Spirits and have a seat in the Throne of Heroes are summoned, Fate/EXTRA uses the "Mooncell" system, where the facility on the surface of the Moon, Mooncell that have recorded the Earth since time immemorial, which means in Fate/EXTRA, even those that are not recognized as Heroes can be summoned as Servant, i.e. a historical figure. This game introduces new Servants to be controlled by the player, Red Saber, Kitsune Caster and the original Archer is available. You will see a lot of new Servants as well as a few familiar faces from Fate/Stay Night.
Fate/EXTRA CCC that will be coming out in a few months is basically an expansion with an extra route that will talk about SERAPH. Think of it as something similar to Heaven's Feel route in Fate/Stay Night.

Fate/Apocrypha: A light novel written by Yuichiro Higashide with illustrations by Ototsugu Konoe. It is based off an Online Game idea that was ultimately scrapped. The original gameplay involves the Player plays as the Master, and then summons his/her Servant. You fight with other Player's Master-Servant team for online ranking. As Nasu the perfectionist wanted to create a story while it was an online game, the development didn't go smoothly and it was cancelled at the planning stages. The Servant ideas were left behind and Yuichiro Higashide picked it up and started to write a novel on it. To date, 2 chapters have been written(if I'm not mistaken). According to sources, the full novel will be set to be realeased Winter this year.

I recommend that you start with FSN as it's the first title and it explains a lot on the Holy Grail War.

Something I'm somewhat confused about is people saying that Realta Nua doesn't have sex scenes, because the PC version of Realta Nua that I have most certainly does contain sex. Any ideas?

Realta Nua certainly doesn't have sex on the PS2. Are you sure it's not only the voices from Realta Nua that were imported on the pc version? Like, there shouldn't be any voices during sex scenes.
