I just finished watching this anime and felt it needed a topic of it's own as it truly unique and detracts from what I have come to expect from anime. The result was a heartwarming story that crawls along at life's pace that details the struggles of our two main characters as they try to escape the curse of the Sin-bound.
Without further ado heres the Synopsis which I ninjaed from ANN.
A dream of falling from the sky...and then birth. Rakka is born from a large cocoon into the Old Home, greeted by a group of females with small wings on their backs and shining halos above their heads. Soon Rakka’s own wings grow, a halo is placed on her head and she is told that she must work in the nearby town of Grie. She soon realizes that the town and the entire world they live in are confined behind the Wall, a tall, impenetrable wall that none except the mysterious Toga are allowed to exit.
Before anything else, I would warn potential watchers that there's almost no conflict or action in the series. So those that tend to get bored quickly when things aren't exploding or when there aren't any pantie flashes every episode might want to stay clear from this anime.
Those that are interested in knowing more about the anime might want to check out reviews from those who actually know what they are doing. Here. Its a short series with only 13 episodes though I feel that it could have a deep impact on you.
OP and ED
Also now that I mentioned the OP and ED I have to say the music in the anime is very nice, it invokes the right emotions at the right times while being subtle at the same time.
Been a very long while since I watched Haibane (maybe the time has come to re-watch it ... ?) so my memories are a bit vague.
It ain't (IMO) a mass-audience anime and people who won't find the initial dreamy, subtle pacing appealing are likely to drop it. Nevertheless I remember learning to appreciate this short series as it progressed.
Not the type that hooks one right of the bat, compelling into watching another episode immediately. Also with certain pacing issues and leaving loose ends near the end. However the nice amount of symbolism/depth and great development of the two main heroines combined with an excellently build mood, more than make up for it.
A nice option for those who liked Kino no Tabi, Mushishi, Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto or perhaps Dannou Coil.
It'd be nice if there was some visual presentation. >_>
Right lol I accidently erased the review I wrote with the pictures and all so the one posted was written in a rush didn't have the OP and ED let me edit it in abit.
Considering it's an adaptation of some personalized doujinshis it's rather good. The story is solid, even if they leave a lot of secrets hanging in the end. It was a story about faith and redemption more than anything else and it got that point across.
I enjoyed it a lot. It's visually beautiful and has a great soundtrack. Parts of it dragged and got a little depressing and some of the characters could have used more of a story, but it's a good anime.
The story is solid, even if they leave a lot of secrets hanging in the end.
I think that's a good thing. The secrets keep you wondering through the whole series and really encouraged you to use some imagination, while telling a deeply emotional story about the characters. This was one of those animes that made my throat close up from time to time, and left me in a melancholy mood. Anime that touches the emotions aside from laughter and excitement are too rare to go unappreciated. :)
They are just angels which cannot ascend to heaven yet. They like in a purgatory or something. Before they go up they must do something. To repent their sin in the past life?To do something to make their soul in peace.Who knows.
