Happy Ending?

When a main supporting character dies and the main character loves them, but doesn't tell her/him, can the ending actually be happy. Even though the dead character usually comes back as a ghost and tells the main their true feelings, there still dead, and nothing is going to change that.

^ seems a good example.... I think I'll call it a tragic happy ending.. or better... a bittersweet ending... yep a sad happy ending that gives you teary eyes with a smile..

School Days. Although you could probably make a case how school days's ending was NOT happy, I view it as happy because that bastard Makoto died a painful death and technically meets your prerequisites of someone dying with a character still loving them, if not extremely loosely(well he wasnt really the supporting character but still it was close enough to actually validate my point)

Gurren Lagann. The ending was epic and both happy and sad. Id lean more to happy, but you feel kinda sad for Simon a the end of it all.

ummmmmm no, if a character dies at the end wouldn't that make it a tragedy story, ie not happy.

That was even more tragic given the whole big plan of Lelouch's, Death Note on the other hand, yeah I could see that

cross game ending was good, life goes on.

Oh yeah, I remember reading this one before. In the scenario you described, the ending could be considered a happy one if there is some real closure (although I would call it more along the lines of bitter sweet than just plain happy). If the main character doesn't move on with his life after the tragedy, then I wouldn't call it a happy ending.

Not anime though, but the true ending route of Arcuid in tsukihime.
Well, no one dies, but having to part with your most beloved do hurt, right?
Though some spoilers I read about Tsukihime 2 or something says that Arc and Shiki will be reunited again (won't tell how though, that would be a mass spoiler).
