Ranma was long; Inuyasha was even longer. Does that mean the next series of Rumiko Takahashi will have at least 60 volumes, provided she goes about producing it?
The anime series had its fair share of critics; personally, I enjoyed it. Now that the manga has ended, perhaps I should take the opportunity to read it in-depth. Hopefully, most of the main characters would have happy endings...

I personally think the manga is better. They cram so much into a single episode that you miss out on a lot watching the anime. That's one of the main reasons why Kikyou is hated by so many people. Other than that the series does a good job following the manga. The movies have nothing to do with the main story, so its only a waste of time if you don't like them.

Anyone mind giving the whole summary to the manga plus the ending to me? Because I just don't have it in me to start reading all of inuyasha from start to finish.

If you at least know the main part of the Inu Yasha story, then skip the whole chapter until the the last one (558), you'll still understand the ending. Unless of course you want to read about the final battle with Naraku, then you need to read a couple chapters before the end.
Heck, I didn't even read any single chapter of Inu Yasha. I did follow the anime until the end though. Just assume that the last anime episode is the final confrontation with Naraku, then the ending followed after that is at chapter 558.
