Am I the only one noticing that pokemon is pretty "dark",I was watching the new pokemon movie movie,Arceus and the jewel of life and one particular scene,I just can't stop thinking about.
That made me think of other pokemon movies,for example,the Celebi movie
Now pokemon may be a kids thing,but am I the only one here noticing some "dark themes"in pokemon?

as for the topic, the old pokemon movies were full of hope and making friendship. The scenes you depicted do seem sad, but I'm pretty sure that ash and friends come in to save him or something, which leads us to the epic heroic part.

I was watching that yesterday, Friday, also. When I saw the silver water, I immediately thought of Mercury. Well, okay I didn't actually watch the entire thing. I was just looking at Shira or Shina or whatever her name is, every time there was a loading screen on a game I was playing. I think the plot was Dialga saved Pikachu and Giratina attack Dialga and Ash went into friendship mode and then Shira or Shina or whatever was trying to pray and the skip an hour of show and then they were putting Arceus in Mecury. END.
I guess now that we're older, it doesn't seem too dark, but it probably is to kids.
The themes of friendship and kindness are supposed to out-way the dark.

It's "dark" because in America, you can't let kids know that anything bad happens, ever. They're a lot less strict about that sort of thing in Japan. Lot ZeroOBK said, the movies have always been dark.

Like ZeroOBK said, the movies have always had dark themes, especially the first one where Mewtwo wanted to kill all the nice pokemon and humans and replace the pokemon with clones.
If anything it's gotten less dark since the first movie.
Besides in the end friendship and love always prevails and happy ending happy ending.

Yup The Movies have always had dark themes, but to be honest none of them are as dark as the first one.

I remember the first season of Pokemon... All the beautiful memories...
And I did watch that new Arceus movie (it was on TV, so what the heck..), for a feeling of nostalgia... it would've been better is I just re-watched the first season again.
I did find that drowning in silver scene pretty dark. Imagine the temperature of the silver, also. 2200 Celsius for silver to be liquid. Suffocating in a pool of extremely hot liquid isn't comfortable at all.
