"Kareshi Kanojo no JijÅ" or "His and Her Circumstances"
I was a little bit surprised that this was in neither the anime nor the manga section. I just recently finished the manga out of boredom. Before I just watched the anime and just stopped. I didn't want to read the manga cuz the artstyle bugged me, but now it's not as bad as I thought it was back then.
But onto the story, Yukino Miyazawa is a Japanese high school freshman who is the envy of classmates for her good grades and immaculate appearance. However, her "perfect" exterior is a façade, a charade she maintains to win praise. In the privacy of her own home, she is spoiled, stubborn, a slob, and studies relentlessly and obsessively to maintain her grades. On entering high school, she is knocked from her position at the top of the class by Soichiro Arima, a handsome young man whose very existence Yukino considers a threat to the praise on which she thrives, and she vows to destroy him. When Soichiro confesses that he has a crush on her, Yukino rejects him then boasts about it at home. Her observant little sister Kano points out that her rivalry with him comes from admiration, causing her to rethink her own feelings. Before she can figure out if she hates or likes Soichiro, he visits her home and discovers her being herself.
What I love about the story is how we get to know everyone's situation and their own story of their own personal life, hence the title. The stories and characters are quite humorous. The romance and drama is ok, it may seem very drastic or whatever you want to call it but it is still enjoyable.

I'm busy these days and I picked up the anime some time ago.
How does the manga compare to the anime, since I'm actually quite infatuated with the characters.

The anime is goes pretty well in following the manga except that the fact that there are probably more comedy parts in the anime version. Recommendation for you though is to stop watching it at episode 23 or something cuz the last few episodes are crap in that they are just recap episodes and 26 wasn't animated. I believe you should start reading the manga from chapter 30 after that and continue on to 102. The characters are the exact same. The story gets pretty serious after the cultural festival and the side character arcs. Like the spoiler I stated o-o earlier. The love might get a little ridiculous among each character but it's still not bad.

Anno directed a significant portion of the 1998 anime serie Kareshi Kanojo no JijÅ (known in English as His and Her Circumstances or Kare Kano for short) — the first Gainax work to be directly adapted from previously-written material — until disputes with both the show's sponsors and the original manga author ended in the director's departure, leaving the show in the hands of his protegé, Kazuya Tsurumaki (see also FLCL).
