Since "NURUTU" has ended in manga, some new titles have popped in, particularly this one on shonen jump weekly.
I was skeptical at first for the hero shit, but I've grown to like the characters and shit in this manga. And it ain't just me who share muh enthusiasm for grow-up hero shits.
The manga has sold more copies than toriko and shokugeki no soma in its first week and has maintained a high poll average of favorites on jump's fave list. This manga ain't goin' nowhere fer awhile. 18 current chapters out with 7 translated(its slow because the groups working on this really, really need redrawers and cleaners).

The story is set in the modern day, except people with special powers have become commonplace throughout the world. A boy named Izuku Midoriya has no powers, but he still dreams.
'It all began in the town of Qing Qing, China-
With news of the birth of a "luminescent baby"!
Shortly thereafter, similar phenomena pooped up all over the world.
The trigger for these new found powers was never determined, but as time progressed-
What was once extraordinary became ordinary...
And "Dreams" became reality!!!
Of the planet's population, 80% have developed unique abilities, or "Individualities"-
called "Quirks"! We have entered a new age- A society of superhumans!
And in this world whirling with chaos, a certain profession that people used to aspire to only in daydreams, has stepped into the light of day!'

BTW it seems the mangaka took 2 leaves from outta his previous works since I hear people who read his previous manga compliment academia having lots of character development.

I like how though Midoriya is sidelined for now, he still gets some good time in despite focusing on some of the other characters. Chapter 25 is a good sign o that.

I've read the first dozens of chapters or so but it didn't really click with me. Does the shounen get good? Like, "hype" good?

I like this manga a lot. The shounen manga I need to read weekly. Deku is cool and impressed with his critical thinking skills. Unfortunately, I find his quirk "just" super strength bland. Still I will enjoy reading how he figure out more of "his" power while fighting while being battle smart also.
