Neon Genesis Evangelion Order?

Ok so I wanted to watch/buy the NGE series but which one is first? I know there is Evangelion 1.11, Death and Rebirth, 2.0 You can (NOT) Advance, and such, but which one came first so I can watch it in order without being confused?

Well, the new movies, (Evangelion 1 and 2.0), are a retelling of the original story, but death and rebirth, and the end of Evangelion, are to be watched at the end of the original 26 episode series.
So, you can either start with the two new movies, or watch the original series, then death/rebirth and the end of Evangelion, (death and rebirth really isn't necessary since it's mostly recap), and then check out the new movies.

Then The End of Evangelion part 1 and 2. This is where you make your own choices. Whether you recognize this as a complementary ending or a new ending.
Then the new movies. There will be four movies released. So far we got:
1- Evangelion 1.0: You are (not) alone
2- Evangelion 2.0 You can (not) advance
However, keep in mind the movies are a retelling and also a new guideline. You can completely forget the original series and look at it as a new Eva.

However, I've read the retelling from the manga and watched all the prior movies and whole series; they take elements from everywhere to form something "new" however that just makes it even more confusing. Especially the name changes with Asuka and the new Girl (not that I complain about her :D)
