As a child, Shion Ishiwatari's parents were murdered in their own home. Shion escaped unharmed, yet the trauma caused her to lose her voice. The only evidence police found was a shougi board and one piece "the King". Neighbours and close friends of the family, Shinji and Sachiko Yasuoka, adopted Shion and taught Shion how to play shougi. As the years passed, she became known as a genius and quite a famous player. Now, as her fame rises, her past resurfaces and she discovers that being a professional shogi player may just lead to finding her parents' killer.
It was produced by Studio Deen which lasted for 22 episodes. Solving plot mysteries had never been so enjoyable until I’ve seen this. Thus it has been one of the most memorable series of 2007/2008. When I say enjoyable... it's not very intense; it definitely provided some "worry" factor (Shion in particular) along the way but not as brilliant as every thing that "Monster" had to offer. Revolving around "shougi" tournaments and all, it may really seem to focus on the game a lot. But for one to truly discover the beauty of a (this) series is for one to view it as a "whole." As for me, not having much familiarity with the game never did screw it nor discouraged. I'd say, a decent series all in all which is surely worth seeing.
Shion is pure win! Saori is lovely! Also, there’s a trap! (go figure)
The OP theme was very amusing! (in more ways than one)
RIZE - Lady Love
The ED theme didn't disappoint either. :D
Teruma Aoyama - My Dear Friend
Seriously, this sounds interesting. I have to admit that the shougi part of it sorta doesn't, but I'm willing to look past that for a decent anime. At least it's not related to mahjong, I hate watching people play that.
When I first saw the name I immediately thought of 'Nabari no Ou'. ...Not sure why I had to point that out.
Ah, this series my friend still needs to finish, the premise was enough to get me in, but the whole gaming thing wasn't able to keep me in it, I could care less about the trap, I was okay with him. I might be convinced to picking up were I left of if someone would save me the trouble and find me a batch torrent of this nano desu.....
