This. Some animes get the hurried, half-baked or made-up endings because the source light novel or manga wasn't done yet. Like Fruits Basket, Claymore, Kare Kano, the list goes on and on. And as a fan, I'd like to see the intended ending on its anime adaptation.
As well as anime series that can benefit from the advanced technology in anime-making today. No changes in storyline, but with a much sharper look, a more polished feel and better animation.
... but I get the feeling the anime studios would go for the "alternate universe" remakes. Just my guess.
