Slice of Life

Forgive me if this thread exists.
I want to know your opinions on this because i'm fed up with people complaining about how there isn't any action :|
It isn't my favourite genre, but i do like a slice of life every now and again (and they always turn up in my top 10 afterwards!). I'm talking about K-On, Lucky Star, Haruhi (yes it's slice of life/sci-fi), azumanga daioh etc.
Personally, i like them for the relaxed comedy, personal identification, escapism to a different ordinary life etc.
I'm just sick of people flaming certain series because "there's no story". Duh, it's a SLICE OF LIFE kfjsofgjflgffsdfgkmojngd.

I like slice of life animes, Clannad in particular. They are more seinen, so the ones who say it's boring/no action are probably shounen fans, Narutards etc.

This style is what I watch the most like Amagami, Toradora and those light comedies. I don't think I have seen a whole lot of action and robots except of Code Geass which was a long while ago.



Yeah, I hate how I suggest it to some friends and don't even watch just a little of it. They completely write it off. Doesn't matter though, because I realized later that I don't want them to watch it anyway. I don't actually like those people and letting them watch it would ruin the series for me.

HATERS GONNA HATE case at its finest, there will be always people that goes flame certain series and such. But it never stopped me to watch and enjoying.

I personally enjoy slice of life series like ARIA and K-ON.

I love watching slice of life series, even if people tend to bash them, (and it's usually the shounen crowd that does so for some reason). I think that the genre might be under appreciated simply because of the fact that these types of shows, such as Hidamari Sketch and Azumanga Daioh, have a lot less action, and some correlate action with character development, which simply isn't true. In fact, you can get to know more about a character from how they deal with getting to school on time rather than their performance on the battlefield.

There is always a story in anime, even BOBOBO had one!

OT: I enjoy Slice of life, usually because I enjoy watching characters unfold into a whole new person throughout the series...

I've had this argument with my friend before. He says he prefers shows like Naruto and Bleach because it has more action than my slice of life shows. I try to explain that action isn't everything, but he is convinced that he is right. I stopped trying after a while. Slice of life shows are much more appealing to me because it just seems more lighthearted and relaxed than other genres.

i agree. I want people to like the same show as me, but i don't want them to watch it and start saying opinionated things that ruin it >.>

well i like to read/watch slice of life.
i finished some of it like toradora! and/or maybe salad days if some of you now that.

I enjoy slice of life alot actually, I loved Lucky Star because there was no drama, no action, no plot, no conflict etc, it was just funny, it's just something awesome to kick back and laugh your ass off on as well as Azumanga Daioh. Clannad I suppose you can call a slice... but that's a different story

Slice of life animes are the ones I generally watch. I find them to be more enjoyable than the ones that are packed with action. Though this has caused my little sister, who's into action, to bash on me for it.

I've probably watched this genre the most out of all the anime I've watched so far.

I'm just drawn to it.

There are some Slice-of-Lifes that I find insufferable, and some that I love. In any case, I think that it's the same as any genre--there are good ones and bad ones, and stuff that is not necessarily to your taste.

I like them better than the normal genres, all the popular animes are so overhyped

Slice of life, in the spectrum of anime production genres, is a rather modern phenomenon. I've been watching anime nearly forever, and honestly I can't recall the first slice of life I saw. I'm thinking it possibly was the original To Heart, which I saw small clips of after it's Japanese release (That was probably 2000-ish. It didn't get released mainstream into North America until quite far down the road in around '05-ish I think...).

Slice of life is not bad. I enjoy the genre quite nicely, and it got my fiancee' into anime, after my persistence. She enjoys it because compared to most of the styles of anime out there, it is more light hearted and, for her, they typically have involved stories - although she has this incredible knack of guessing what happens without wiki-ing it. I have to agree with her notion. I personally enjoy everything Key has put out, and the majority of my most-watched fan subs are slice of life series'.
