If you watch anime, you occasionally find these strange references to a lot of different things that you wouldn't expect to be in anime.
People seem to be misunderstanding. What I mean is references from something OTHER than other anime.

During the first half of this episode for Angel Beats Episode 2, the traps that are shown are all references to traps very popular in movies. One that really stuck on me was the one starting at 7:00, which is a laser trap. This reminded me of the first Resident Evil movie and the part where the recovery team got stuck and lost 3 of their men including their leader.
