Character designer Suzuhito Yasuda (Durarara!!, Yozakura Quartet) is designing the characters for the new series, Hiroshi Negishi (Tenchi Universe, Saber Marionette J) is returning to the franchise to direct, and Masaki Kajishima is credited as the original creator.
The city of Takahashi in Okayama Prefecture announced in May that it is sponsoring the new anime. The anime will be set in Takahashi, as the city hopes fans will come on a "pilgrimage" to see the setting of the anime, and plans to sell goods and host related events. The series is slated to run for 50 five-minute episodes on Tokyo MX starting in October.
The anime studio AIC is producing the series. AIC previously produced the first Tenchi Muyo! original video anime series and the projects that followed. The franchise is celebrating its 20th anniversary with this new project.

Hmmm... I got mixed feelings on this. My portable HD will never let got of Ryo-Ohki series. Oh well, as long they don't cast aside the Tenchi's harem too much just to give the spotlight to these new characters, then these series is worth to try.
Damn, I missed Ayeka(they now show her legs) and Sasami so much and I hope Tsunami would appear there in someway.

Read about this about a month back, but with very few details about it. Not quite what I expected/ hoped for. Will definitely still watch though.

I wonder what made them decide with 50 5-min shorts. Should it be better for 5 50-min eps or even 10 25-min eps? Is there a reason for them doing that? (like for profit?)

Big fan watched the series when I was a kid was quite confused at the different setups, but it was one of my favorite series.
Not liking Kenchi design, but I do like Ryoko and Ayeka. Will watch but disappointed they are 5 minute shorts instead of the regular 25 min eps.

I'm amazed how Aeka's new VA sounds similar with the previous one
Washu sounds the same.
Ryoko is the same as always but now with a dynamite body to match today's animation.
Sasami however even with same VA sounds different. They added a growing up element?

Well This show has been everything I never wanted it to be. Can't find a single thing I could like about any of the new characters, they're all practically incarnations of tropes. Despite being 22 Tenchi looks like a 17y/o wimp. Episode 5 was a fucking recap that added nothing to the story at the very least. If this wasn't Techi Muyo! I would have dropped this faster than a heavy thing that was heavier than a really heavy thing.
...I must either really love Ryoko, or be some kind of masochist.
