Or S2E3 if you prefer. I'll edit this post after it airs because at the moment it's not 100% certain what they'll air, but it's pretty much taken for granted that it'll be part 2 of Endless Eight. As I mentioned in the general Haruhi thread, there's a live stream that's (supposedly) going to have English subs. Haruhi will start, according to the Japanese guy whose stream it is, when at 1AM Japanese time.

OK, I've just seen the episode. About the only thing I can say without spoiling anything is that I've noticed how the series tends to only be able to relay the plot via long conversations; it can't seem to have the plot conveyed through action, movement or any sort of interaction outside of sitting down and talking. You can almost hear the gears change as it goes into Plot Mode.

I'm still waiting for Datte-fucking-bayo subs to do Endless Eight 1, but it looks like my guess was right on the money for this particular "arc". Waiting for a good quality RAW/sub to come out. :P

If you want really high quality encodes, check out Yuki. They're always behind by quite a long time, but they're good to get after you've seen the subs done by a fast group (like afk). Their releases are 1280x720 MKVs. There's another group called Sushi who also have MKVs of that resolution and tend to release before Yuki but I don't know how good their subs are. Yuki combine the best subs from other groups. It seems to me that, in terms of speed, afk are the best. Most of the other groups don't seem to have done Endless Eight 1 yet.

I just checked out that stream rip (I'm assuming that's what it is) and the quality's not bad; certainly worse than a "proper" encode but not as bad as I'd expected. It's just very low resolution, but it's not horribly pixellated or anything - not like how anime used to look back in the 56kbps days.



No subs, though.

So it's the 3rd episode of the 2nd season.^^

I just hope we won't have to wait that long for another new episode like this time.

This episode really requires highest quality possible. That bored Nagato look is, how should I put this, stunning?

I highly enjoyed this dose of delicious Haruhi action. Also, do want moar of Haruhi's bathing suit NOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOM.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the "HD Haruhi" just an upscale? Anyway, I watched Mazui's subs of the episode for the lulz while waiting for a.f.k.. The video quality was iffy, but the subs read fine. This episode certainly gives a lot more weight to the previous episode's slice of life type feeling.

@ZeroOBK: Well I thought the same thing when someone uploaded screenshots from episode 8 (Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody). Then I watched episode 1 (Melancholy 1) and it was quite clearly a higher definition. Yuki said him/themselves that 8 came out looking pretty shitty. I'm not sure, but in general, when an anime show has an HD version it's because a certain network has being broadcasting HD whereas the other networks have been broadcasting SD - the guys that made the RAW took it from the HD network. Sometimes, though, the HD RAW doesn't materialise until much later (or at all). Certainly, compared to my original afk episodes from 2006, the 2009 episode 1 was on a totally different level visually (the Yuki release, that is).

Anyway, the first subs seem to have appeared. Edited them into the first post.

Did a little research, seems to be that the "HD Haruhi" is most likely an upscale. Haruhi 2009 was created in HD, but the stations were given the SD versions probably so that KyoAni could sell the real HD version later. So the differences you were noticing were likely the result of different stations which produce different levels of artefacts in their broadcast.

Well looking at the episodes, they do look very good - far better than the other groups I've seen - but the upscaling thing does seem to be true. The shots that are close-ups look great, but when the characters are far away from the camera, the natively low resolution becomes obvious as their features aren't detailed at all.
