And it's finaly finished. The 12th episode of second season and, apparently, the last one overall was aired a couple days ago. So I thought I'd bump this thread with a few interesting points.
Well, good prevails in the end like always but at what cost? The best way to make an in-depth analysis is by considering a few key points instead of the staring the picture as a whole.
Sooo, whatever Neeba had planned was because of his inferiority coplex? Thinking that if the Gods turned against him he'd be "special"? Well, not exactly the evil genious or even the misunderstood guy that seeks revenge for something. It pretty much shattered the image I had formed for him. Quite a disappointment actualy, being viewed as some deranged 2nd rated villain (remember the innkeeper in Devil May Cry?).
On a relevant issue, the final battle had really less tension and was less captivating than mostly would expect. In other words, it looked way to easy. That's almost disturbing seeing the difference in power between Jill and Neeba/Druaga being overcome like that. Had Jill really got all that stronger out of nowhere or was Neeba having problems with his transformation? It looked to me that they were in a hurry to wrap things up and thus they didn't pay much attention to that.
And then, of course, comes the romantic part of the story. Male hero gets female co-staring character. But what happens when two or more of them are fighting for a place in his heart?
Personaly I was a die hard supporter of a JillxFatina relationship since season one for many reasons. But from the moment Kaya joined (again) the party I knew that things would turn towards her favour. Still, knowing is different from hoping and so the end killed the small part of me that was still vouching for Fatina (that makes it the 3rd or 4th anime pairing that I support but doesn't happen... Am I begining to enjoy the bitter feeling of disappointment?)
Back on track..
After the first couple episodes in season two with the plot emphasising on Jill and Fatina's tries to heal their wounds together, after her every attempt to show her true feelings, after everthing she had done, they go for the "male sword wielding hero gets the healer/white mage/priest female". Really original. Even when you have Fatina obviously lying that she wanted to use Jill to get over his brother and even crying when she decided to stay behind so that he and Kaya could go on. Geez..
And what a -insert adjective of your choice- attempt to hook her up with Utu. That was completely out of the blue and I get the feeling it was just a way to appease Fatina's fans somehow, yet it showed once more that they were probably trying to end things as quickly and painlessly as possible.
To sum it up, they could definitely put some more effort to end the series. The idea was good in the begining, but somewhere in the middle they went out of track. On the other hand, if anyone is interested in a medieval-fantasy based anime with a bit of DnD style then they should watch it since there aren't that many around and its short length (24 episodes in total) can make a boring weekend pass faster.
On the plus side, there are some really shining moments in the anime that you'll hardly forget soon. I'm talking of course for the amazing episode 1 which really made my ribs hurt from all the laughing. And, to drag some of them outside the box I'm mentioning
the horny ropper (episode 1), the ropper dance (episode 5 I think) and the original "spoongasm" (don't recall the episode)
.
And some Fatina pictures for the fans.
