Found it suitable that my 1k post would be introducing another series.
While I didn't manage to find a 'how the fuck could we have missed this !?' kind of anime, I think this is still more than solid.
The show is actually a 2007 alternate version of a 30 year-old movie by the same name and many things about the style and storytelling seem to refer to the predecessor.
This baby is usually classified as a space-opera and I totally agree with that since it has all the elements you'd expect from the genre - character depth, drama/tragedy plus love and space battles to boot. It also has a few major time jumps and becomes quite epic along the way with the main cast facing immensely powerful adversaries and gaining tremendous power themselves.
The basic story revolves around a future reality in which humanity left it's barren and ravaged home world to live on colonies scattered throughout space. To prevent further disasters and provide people with peace and stability an all-powerful supercomputer network now guides man kind. It is in this environment that we meet Jomy - a young boy who is about to be crudely fit into society by the inhuman system but is saved and accepted by a group known as Mu. As we will soon learn, the Mu (seen as an aberration by the supercomputer due to their extraordinary abilities) are the only ones that can save humanity from enslavement and lead them on the jurney to happiness.
Apart from the the excellent story Terra e also makes splendid use of characters. More than once were my emotions stirred when a fragile moment of happiness crumbled before yet another tragedy. The emotional impact is all the grater since the characters are excellently developed and given much depth.
Like I indicated in the begging, the art style is a bit ... retro. This isn't to say the series looks bad but simply requires some time to adjust. The sound is properly epic and serves as a solid background, further stressing the highly emotional scenes and the numerous battles.
If I were to name the flaws of Terra e, I'd say it was some lost time during the first few episodes. The whole series is incredibly fast-paced, with it's story providing numerous mood twists and cliffhangers and those few eps just seem bland in comparison. This was nowhere near enough to make me stop enjoying it though. Greatly.
An elegant, exciting, high-quality series that just needs some time to grow on you.
So, this is what you were talking about. Congratz bro!
You're truly one of the guys who's worthy of such a title. 8)
About the series though... I just can't get myself to watch it.
I'm simply the type of viewer who hardly tries out something that doesn't interest me...
Good work with the presentation nonetheless.
As for the series - it's the usual case that people either like space operas or omit them in general. I'm a sucker for them so this baby fit my tastes quite perfectly.
I watched a few episodes of the anime. I really liked it really good storyline. I have no problem with the character style, in fact I think it fits in the anime perfectly. With all the anime and manga I'm currently watching I can't find time to finish this series...
It's been awhile since I've seen this series, but I do remember watching this series and thinking, "This is an awesome show." I forgot which episode it was, but I liked it when the first mu was born on the planet Nazca through the normal way (the womb).
@Das: I didn't think the art sytle was too retro, but rather a more renewed version of an old art style. I liked it nevertheless. You're also right about character development - they really spent a lot of time developing the characters, which made the show that much more enjoyable and drove much of the direction the show was driving at, which ultimately ended in peace.
