Watch "Welcome to the NHK"

It's a 24 episode anime about a "hikikomori" (recluse) named Tatsuhiro Satou who meets a mysterious girl named Misaki who claims can cure his hikikomori ways. She presents him with a contract basically outlining that once a day they would meet in the evening in a local park where Misaki would lecture to Tatsuhiro in an effort to rid him of his lifestyle.

Of course other stuff happens and more characters are revealed later on, but those would be spoilers. It has some really funny parts, but in retrospect a lot of it is pretty sad, if not completely depressing. There are a few times when I cried, though that isn't much coming from me. >_>

Yes, I must agree. Welcome to the NHK is an awesome series. It has a lot of dark and mature humor, but depressing and sad scenes as well, and I must admit that I also cried during a couple of episodes throughout the series, though not saying much from me either.

You guys convinced me to download it, on episode two right now and starting episode three.

2 years later and the OST just came on my playlist.

Also, this is one of my all time favorites. Gotta love the anime about crazy people. Lots of stuff I can relate to in there as well.
