Three words: To Love Ru.
Hah... that was shit
Hold on let me elaborate
I started reading that comic a while back, but it was I guess close to 200 chapters so I wasn't to keen on reading 200 chapters only to end up stopping
It was okay, just a cute like mishap manga I guess
Eventually after a couple of hours I just got tired of it
So when I was on onemanga and they announced it's end I was like, okay, I wanna see how it ends
I find out
That it's nothing, the end didn't end a damn thing
Now back on topic
I think it really only matters how it ends
If it doesn't give much closer, it's pointless
If it ends too soon for the author to honestly get the story out, then apparently everyone got tired of the BS and quit supporting it.
Example: Dual Arts
Look that up
Now a series like Naruto or One Piece where there's a goal that's far off in the future, those give it a chance for longevity and an easy way to close out, a series that involves a love story, like School Rumble or love hina, gives you 10million twists and turn before it decides to let the fans breath a sigh of collective relief
I personally say leave the comics to more than 1 writer or artist, make it a big thing like the western market and fans get a chance to selectively choose what they like. The Series Witchblade goes from heroine to heroine, just like there's a new Batman. Plus, things progress faster over here.
