Are you suggesting that all characters go at it at once? I don't know about you, but the logistics in creating something that'll achieve a battle royale ratings war is going to be crazy. The only way to implement something like that would be to redesign the entire "Battle!" page with profile pics of each girl and rating categories, and do away with the poll system. Problem is, there are so many girls to compare against, it might be better to provide a masterlist of all the girls competing, and then creating blocks to limit the number of comparisons made. One week a block before moving onto the next block. Then once all of the blocks are done, tally up the ratings score and we get our winner in each respective qualifying category.
Sounds and looks complicated, but not a bad idea. I propose a best couple motevote battle, but whatev. Got any ideas on the categories for rating the contestants?
Actually its pretty simple, a little time consuming, but simple. There aren't any comparisons, per se. That's what kind of messed the last MoteMote contest up, there was too much emphasis on comparing the characters as opposed to individual evaluation.
Here's a rough layout for the early stages of the contest I'm playing around with:
Selection Process:
Each user submits 1 or a list of characters, maybe 5, that they think should be in the contest. Now this is where details would need to be worked out. I'm thinking that, considering the number of users, the ultimate qualifier would be the number of recommendations. However since there are so many possible selections, it could be that most, or even all, of the characters only get one, so there would have to be a back-up plan.
Contest:
Each character gets a thread. Before anyone starts to rate, pictures are posted and some sort of character bio is given. Once the threads are set up, the rating will begin. Whether there is one overall rating or various categories is up for discussion, but it'll be based on the individual girl and the rater's opinion of her, not a comparison to other characters. They're all available to be rated at the same time. Users can choose whether or not they want to rate a specific character, comparisons are discouraged, and the rating can be done whenever the user has time, as long as its within the duration of the rating period. Since the results will ultimately be determined by averages, it will be more fair for characters from lesser known anime or great characters from anime that just plain sucks.
Afterward:
The overall ratings for each individual character are calculated and the results are posted. As for whether a winner is automatically crowned or some supplementary contest is held, to either break ties for a certain rank or to add more competition to it, is up for discussion as well. There will be, undoubtedly, ties among certain ranks. If there is a tie of one or more for the #1 spot, there will have to be some kind of sudden death contest to decide who wins.
Another idea is to just have it as an ongoing thing. There will be an open forum where people can submit characters. A master list of characters who have been added, along with their overall ratings will be provided. The overall ratings can either be included along with the master list, or in a separate post. However, in order to have more accurate standings, the characters won't be eligible for a spot in the rankings until they get a set amount of ratings.
