Alternative formats like ePub don't really work for comics that consist of fixed size images - they're primarily aimed for text which can be reflowed on demand (basically, what a single "page" contains can change depending on the text size etc), but this is obviously not really possible for comics with a strict planned panel layout per page.
that was how i used to think too, but researching about this subject i found a tool that optimizes images to e-readers display and convert them to CBZ, EPUB and MOBI,
KCC. Printed mangas are almost the same size as the ereades display and usually they are all in B/W, that's why i think that mangas should be read on ereaders.

I mostly read Fakku from my Kindle Fire and it works better then my desktop imo.
kindle fire its just a regular tablet, it has some real internet browsers, but my paperwhite just has a experimental one, and it is very limited.
