It's just the new way of hiding online status. You can turn it off (it is on by default) in your settings. Previously it said everyone was offline if the setting was on. Now it does the opposite.

Maybe it isn't on by default. All I remember is that it always used to say offline before, which is why I think the rule of it has flipped.
