It's a massive meme. They got her in to be progressive, you can tell.
People are mad that they got her in to be progressive for no real reason.
People are defending it because grill lead.
I still can't help but feel it's kinda insulting their aims to only put them in because they are a girl and it's progressive
Well there is a difference between this and Ghostbusters. I don't think the bbc and Doctor Who writers are going to bootstrap the 13th Doctor because she's a woman. I'm pretty sure they plan this out back when Smith was the doctor.
While the Ghostbusters 2016 wasn't a shit show, it wasn't Ghostbusters 3. At least they didn't like reimagine the characters with the same concept as the original. They were totally different people.
Well, Ghostbusters 2016 was pretty much pissing off fans from the get-go; it started out with the frankly ghoulish image of being announced mere weeks after Harold Ramis' death from cancer. The producers continued to botch the PR at every turn. Hiring a director known for raunch comedies, getting yelled at by Ernie Hudson, disavowing any continuity at all with the original film; the list goes on.
I wouldn't take this little bit of drama as seriously; the fandom always bitches that the new doctor isn't as good as the last one. Plus, the DW showrunners have been sending up so many trial balloons about a female doctor the past few years the Russians mistook it for a nuclear launch. It's at the point where it struck me more as boringly obvious than anything else.
People are mad but I can see where some people are coming from. Did they do this because she was suited to the role, or are they pandering?
I don't really care myself as I don't watch the show, but it makes you think.
If she turns out to be a good choice though, then a majority of the people kneejerk reacting to a change in the show's formula will stop complaining. If she's a bad choice then the show's reputation may take a hit. Surprisingly big gamble.
