It's the easiest hurdle to ask permission from the artist/circles,
it's a different beast whether the content of the doujin is legal in the US (not infringing on copyright)

I still can't imagine A Macross doujin ever allowed due to Harmony Gold's lock on the IP. (No English Macross product allowed)
