I've been a part of this community before but, things happened, had to concentrate on my college degree until I graduated and I never really thought about coming back here because... well back then the community felt kind of hostile. However, coming out of college (about six years ago? can't really remember) as a more mature person I've come to realize that it's more realistic to change myself than the people around me.
My reason for visiting this site again is because of the current news of "Fakku removing free content" in which some people on youtube called Fakku a "sellout". I was interested in this because I've no doubt gained friends in this community and I wondered how they were doing and perhaps even their opinion on this change (from reading the original topic about it, it seems rather unwelcome). I wrote my opinion about it in the thread so I won't spoil this meet and greet with it.
People who kept in contact with me ever since would immediately realize who I am but hopefully not because there's a certain joy in anonymity if just to talk to your old friends while they don't realize who you were. I've bought FAKKU merchandise before and I wasn't disappointed (though because of some shipping faults the product was delayed a few months) and hopefully FAKKU can give me a reason to support this new business model they adopted.
Lastly, will I be staying for the long run this time? I will be honest that I intend to visit here but not frequent it as I've done before. Back in the days of the Random Squad everytime I came home from my last year in high school and then later on college I would frequent this website just to see if my friends were online (or engage in some stupid incoherent babbling drama which I now feel ashamed about when I remember them). None of that now for me but I will still probably participate in some games and discussions as I do not want to be just a lurker. So if I'm not busy in the office, or helping manage our family businesses I'll try to be present. Anyway it's nice to visit again.
Right now the community is in outrage due to the changes so ... we'll see how things are in the aftermath. I'm glad people like you are around who can think about what's happening without
1. jumping to conclusions,
2. complaining,
3. erupting in a hostile mess of emotions, or
4. lacking perspective
I really appreciate it.
There's a lot of misinformation floating around and people are quick to make accusations. I'd really like for the dust to settle at this point. Everyone is free to decide where they stand for themselves but it upsets me that people use the wrong reasons to justify their decision. It's even more bothersome when people shout their opinions on social media which makes it easy for negativity to spread. A lot is happening and really people just need some patience.
But anyway since all of this is going on I fear the community will be in decline (I think it already has been for a while). I don't believe the forums depend on the existence of unlicensed content but the shrinking user base doesn't help that situation. I'd like to see the community find new life but I'm not sure how that would be achieved.
Anyway putting all that aside, welcome (back) aboard.
