As the title says, I'm new here, although I've been buzzing around the manga for a while, but this is my first time joining the community. I hope I can make some good friends!

I'm 18 and I'm very interested in Japanese and I hope to be able to live in Japan after I finish college. I was hoping I could do a little help with the translations team to keep my Japanese skills up-to-date, does anyone know how I can find out about that? I'm not fluent yet, but I think I would be able to contribute at least a little. Thanks!

I also love anime and manga, and I also do a little of my own Japanese calligraphy and I've done some manga-like drawing (nothing big or published). I also really enjoy coming up with ideas for and writing stories. Um, nice to meet you all, please take good care of me!

I would first suggest that you read through the rules and get a good feel for them.

Art and writing, huh? What kinds of things do you write? Also there's a writing contest going on right now if you'd be interested in participating.

I would advise you to try to stay out of Incoherent Babbling until you've gotten some more mileage around the forums. New people tend to not do so well there.

Thanks for the advice and the welcoming! I actually have already posted an entry for that writing contest here. I haven't done much significant writing before that, but I generally have sci-fi/fantasy ideas for stories. I also really enjoy romance, but it's harder for me to come up with stories for that genre. I especially like Yuri stories (as shown by my contest entry). I'll try and get some of my ideas into the writing and fanfiction section so you guys can have a look at them soon!

how many years of Japanese do you have under your belt?

I was told from a friend that Esperanto actually helps with general progress across most languages [mostly the romance languages but I feel that Japanese can benefit from this after looking over its structure]. She speaks Esperanto and French fluently.

I'm currently looking into it to strengthen the few that i'm familiar with.

Right now I have about 1 year of informal/personal study, and 1 year of formal/school study. I got to skip the level 1 class at my school because of that year of my informal study, and I'm going to be starting the level 3 class with this upcoming school year. Oh, and I've also passed the level 10 Kanji Kentei, and I'm prepared enough so that (when I get the chance) I can take the level 9 test as well.
