My Cavs made one of the biggest headscratchers and probably one of the worst picks in the first round picking some guy projected to go round 2 pick 26 who no one had even heard of. WHY DIDN'T YOU TAKE SAM YOUNG DANNY FERRY! YOU ARE A FOOL!!! The Cavs second round pick of Daniel Green was solid. Still, no reason to blow a first rounder, even a late one, on some player no one wanted, especially when Sam Young could have come in and contributed minutes off the bench as a solid defender/spot up shooter. If they really wanted Eyenga, they probably could have bought a mid second-rounder for $100 on eBay anyways.
There was some weird stuff. TWolves taking three point guards in round 1, though they are dealing at least Lawson. Anyone at all taking BJ Mullens in the first round. How can you be 7 feet tall and fail to average 5 rebounds per game in college? Why does anyone think this guy will be good? How often do underachieving players who don't even start in college become good NBA players? Someone told me his scouting report should look like this
Strengths:
-tallness
Weakness:
-ability to play basketball
Rubio also lasted longer than I thought and apparently he doesn't want to play for the Twolves and said he will go back to Spain for a year or two.
I liked Brandon Jennings at 10. He has a lot of potential and I think he learned some valuable skills in Europe, where players are often made to focus more on shooting and fundamentals than here. I think he was underrated because he didn't get a lot of PT and because he wasn't around to be hyped by the NCAA. He and Lawson both were bargains, and I could easily see Jennings ending up as the best PG from the draft class 5 years from now. Forget Flynn.
I'm not sure about Thabeet. In a lot of ways, he actually seems to be a bit underrated on offense, though supposedly he has a lot of the signs of a bust, based on analysis of past drafts. You never know though, situation and coaching have a big impact on who makes it and who busts too. Unfortunately, the Grizzlies are a horribly run organization who gave up their best player for nothing two years ago. Still, Rubio said he wouldn't play for them, and I think they like Conley anyways. Thabeet at least makes sense.
Word is there's also a deal in the works to send Amare' Stoudemire to the Warriors for Curry and Biedrins, among other things. That will be big if it happens.
Also, the two big deals that already went down: Vince Carter to the Magic and Shaq to the Cavs.
