Somehow I've been seeing this spelling error around a lot lately and it's always been something that pisses me off; not because it's confusing or anything but simply because it's wrong and people don't know it. Like, if you confuse desert and dessert there is a semi-legitimate reason or if you flat out spell a word wrong then it's an honest mistake but for some reason it really just grinds my shit when people think "alot" is a word.
IT IS NOT ONE WORD! A and LOT are two separate words. When you combine them you add two l's and it becomes a word meaning that you are doling something out, as in allotting karma or something. Spelling it with one l is a fucking spelling error! Learn the fucking difference!!!

very true, cant say i get that worked up about it but i agree that its all too common of a mistake. then again i cant really complain as my spelling is far from perfect and 90% of the time im too lazy to use proper capitalization or apostraphes(sp?)

I completely agree. It kind of makes me a little mad when people don't know how to use proper grammer and I don't like it when they don't use capitals!

I just really felt the need to vent this one. Not that I expect it to do any significant good but it's nice to say it.
I agree about capitals too. I'm kind of a stickler for grammar so I tend to use apostrophes and capitalize even when I use MSN. No one notices, but it keeps me alive on the inside.

If i happen to catch myself, i try not to use alot, but I could care less. I'm not a big stickler over it either when i read people's posts and such online... so long as you know what is being said without your eyes bleeding and/or popping it's fine XP

Yeah. I've gotten used to it. What usually gets me annoyed are the new slang words that seem to come out every day. People start using them 10 seconds after they're invented and treat you like an idiot for not knowing them.

I've condensed almost all of my grammar hatred into just hating on the error of "alot". I just shake my head at 1337 and alternating capitals and whatnot but as a side effect it all comes out against alot. I just can't stand it.

It makes me a little annoyed, but not so much mad when people use bad grammer. Its not entirely their fault if they were never taught any better.

Since someone performed the courtesy of reviving this topic I'll vent more of my spelling error hatred. My second most hated misspelled/non-existent word is "anti-venom". People seem to think that cure snake bites or certain sicknesses you use "anti-venom". Well, newsflash retards; anti-venom happen to not be a word. The correct term is "antivenin". Though it annoys me, this one is excusable since it's like the correct usage of "whom", most people have no idea that it even exists and those that do can't usually show it. The only reason I know this is because my brother used to be obsessed with snakes.
