They only blocked it because it was getting massive DDOS attacks and was screwing up their lines. They've since brought it back online. It's just AT&T protecting their investment.
It wasn't just the DDOS, it was due to the way they were being DDOSed. The server was receiving spoofed connection requests, all the DDOS nodes were connecting to 4chan and saying they were from an IP which wasn't theirs. Which was actually making 4chan's servers flood that IP with connection request acknowledgments.
So really, whoever was DDOSing 4chan also wanted another site to go down as well.
AT&T saw all of these connection acknowledgments coming from 4chan's server and cut them off because of that.
This is only what i have heard though, i could be wrong.
