BumpTop

So I posted a screenshot of this in "Post your desktop", but I actually wanted to talk about it and hear what you think. Also a screenshot just doesn't do it justice.

BumpTop basically replaces your desktop (except your task bar), giving it a much different feeling in a 3d environment. There are plenty of new features that are very helpful, and some that are just for personal enjoyment. For example, you can use your desktop background for the main floor area, then you can put pictures anywhere and any size you'd like. I've already lined my walls with pictures. Heck, you can even hang a picture frame, set it to your anime folder (or another of your choice) and have it act like a slide show.

Here's a picture of my desktop. I've already changed some stuff around and reorganized, but you get the idea.



Alright enough of me going on about it, I'll let these guys demonstrate it for you.

If you want to try it out, there's a good free version, and it's very easy to install (and uninstall if you don't like it).

i got a software of that in my hdd somewhere... but im to lazy to find it... its cool tho.

still nice idea, but really i will stick with the way my desktop is right now.

besides there are only a few files on my desk.

this interface will pretty much fail if you want to lets say organise over 1000 datas that way.

and it can easily happen, like you want ti extract a H-game CG and you are not aware that the .zip or what ever will not be extracted as a singel folder but instead there will be like 100 pic on the desk.....don´t know who this software would handle this, but since this happens to me sometimes i think will stick with the old desk i have.

btw the way the guy laugh is so gay...

how do you change the BG/floor image?

Right click -> more -> settings
Under Themes you can change the theme as a whole, or set the floor and each wall as it's own image.


I just started going there recently, and I gotta agree. There's some very cool ideas in there.


Yeah, I can see that being a disaster, lol. I always download and extract files in My Documents, though.



BumpTop is mostly for personal enjoyment, not everyone will like it, but there are a couple very good and practical ideas in there.

For example, the round right click menus might seem bad at first, but once you see them a few times you'll find yourself zipping through them much quicker than the standard list menu. The guy in the first video has used it quite a bit, but it's second nature to him and he's flying through the menus so fast I couldn't read them. After just a couple days using it, it has become much more efficient than the normal one. Of course, if there are a lot of options, the 'more' button is necessary.

This isn't really for me. I tried it out and it doesn't really work well for someone who has no icons and three things in a dock. All my stuff was organized by me and switching over to the way bumptop does it is a hassle.
