It sounds like you installed Windows and MacOS on the same Harddrive. If that was what you were saying on the bottom portion of your message, then your Windows files were probably corrupted because of that. You see, I am not sure what distro [version] of Windows you were using, but Vista is VERY bitchy when it comes to sharing a drive with another OS. The reason is that the bootloader and MBR work very differently from other Operating Systems, even previous versions of their own. Its' tricky to even have XP on the same HDD as Vista. Anyway, I can't go into specifics because I don't know how you set it up and with which exact distros, but I advise you to only do a dual partition [putting two different bootable OS's on the same drive] when you absolutely know what you are doing [not saying you don't].
