I notice almost all Japanese and Chinese table food can be eaten with chopsticks alone, and their rice is usually sticky enough to be eaten with chopsticks. A meal there is usually prepared either in bite-sized pieces, or in servings that you can easily pick apart with chopsticks.
But it probably weighs in on influences, as you said earlier about Chinese kids.
