My bro just got a
and he's trying to figure out the best method of putting his Massive DVD collection on his external so he can hook that up to it and watch them. He's looking for a way to try to retain as much quality as possible. Considering that his size limits would probably be around 1-1.5gigs per DVD. Also he wants to keep the chapters. I think he should convert them to .mkv files but I'm not really sure how to do that either. Any thoughts? Also, if you think that media player is a P.O.S. and want to recommend something else please do so.
He's better off downloading his stuff off the Internet.
Properly ripping and converting DVDs is an art onto itself and takes a lot of time (due the MPEG2-->Divx/Xvid or MPEG2-->H264 conversion).
Profficient rippers like Axxo or FXG can do wonders. Since you own the titles I think this falls under fair use and it also saves you from using DeCSS (which is illegal in the US).
BTW this player also seems to support HD mkv rips.
