Well, I just got back a while ago from seeing the Psalms of Planets Eureka seveN: Good night, Sleep tight, Young lovers movie in theaters, thanks to
Fathom Events and now I am here to write my review as well as the opinions of three other people I talked with.
Well the movie was set to start at 7:30 (which it did) and I entered the theater around 7:15 to see only half a dozen people seated. Going into this, since I'd already seen the movie, quite a few times as well I was really more or less there to enjoy the movie on the big screen and to see the other peoples reactions nano desu. Unfortunately perhaps half of the people here were/are most likely High School students and there level/degree of otaku-ness can be often questioned, I did notice about 3 adults (age 30+) then myself and a couple? a man and a woman around my age, they were Japanese actually and I wondered if he dragged her to this or the other way around nano desu, I wasn't able to ask them about there opinions on the movie however, still there was a lack of people in my age bracket.
Alright time for the movie to start....!!!! There's like only 30 people in here!! I am very saddened nano desu.
Movie starts, a few Bandai ads are shown etc, and then some idiotic kids a few rows ahead start shouting "BANDAI!!" as if they think this will get them
cool status amongst there friends...moving on. I must stress that sadly the movie was dubbed T_T Now, when Bandai announced that this movie would be shown in theaters they never stated sub or dub, so we were left with hope, but it was shattered when the site said it was the dubbed version. So along with the other people we were doomed to listen to Johnny Yong Bosch's Renton for 2 hours.... yes this movie is 2 hrs long nano desu ^_^
Movie ends...
Now again I am just and observer, I already enjoyed the movie the first time and seeing it on a big screen did make the experience much more enjoyable. Upon leaving I was able to get 3 peoples opinions, thou judging from there appearance they were most likely high school students, with very little knowledge or past experience in anime/otaku life.
I asked the three the same 3 Questions:
What did you think of the movie?
Have you seen the 50 Episode TV series?
Would you have preferred if the movie was Japanese audio with English subbtitles?
The first person I asked had not seen the entire 50 episode series, he stated how he lost interest in it, thou he enjoyed the movie, "A compelling story," thou I don't know why he would say it gave him "cheap laughs," I believe this could be attributed to the curse know as Johnny Yong Bosch. He did state thou the he would watch the movie again, and would definitely buy the DVD when it's released, and finally he would have much preferred the sub over the dub.
Person 2 also hadn't seen the full TV series, yet he found it "entertaining," thou he approved and enjoyed the dub version, the other 2 people then commented about this, seeing as this guy didn't like the idea of watching a movie and having to read words at the bottom of the screen.
Finally Person 3, he had seen the full series, thou he stressed that it had been some time has pasted since then, he said he "kinda liked it," and was "thrown off," by the story, he wanted this to be similar to Gurren Lagann and its movie, he also would have liked it if it was the subtitled version.
Perhaps if I'd been able to talk to more people I could have obtained a much more detailed insight to the others opinions, but seeing as how the total number of viewers was around 30, these 3 I talked to make up 10% of the total movie patrons. Thou enjoying a movie with few outbursts etc is always nice, and I really did enjoy the movie regardless of what others may think, I urge you all to give this movie a change, it was intended to been by fans and non-fans, you don't need to see the TV series to understand this movie, so DL this and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did nano desu.
"Don't ask for it, go out and win it. Do that, or you won't get anything!"
