Graphi card for MAC

Hello everybody!!

im in quite a predicament here.. i bought bioshock for mac, and i stupidly forgot to check my specs. apparently i need a graphics card which is either a GeForce 9400M or better. im not good with technology, and im on a small budget. so help would be much appreciated...
anyone know of a good cheap grapics card for mac?

How much is your budget? Also, how many watts does your PSU put out?

umm, AUD$300... its 57.75 watts it think, 16.5 volts and 3.5 amps.. so that should be correct..

That's highly unlikely. Modern PC power supplies (which AFAIK are quite similar to Macs as the two platforms have become very similar over the years) have power supplies with at least 300-450 Watt performance.

What we should know though is the name or brand of your Mac. Afterwards we - or you - could look up what sort of peripherals does it accept. I'm not familiar with Macs so I don't even know if one is allowed (by the guarantee restrictions) to swap out their graphic card or whether the graphic card uses a standard interface like AGP or PCI-Express.

According to Wikipedia modern Macs use PCI-E so it *should* be the case, but since I've been a PC person all my life I'd first make sure it is so.

ok.. rechecked, turns out i was calculating the wrong thing.. it produces 400 watts. its a MacBook. and i also checked mine uses PCI except i havent put any in my mac so it doesnt show up, but it has options for it. but the guys in the mac forum said i cant change my card..

any suggestions?

They would be correct. Most laptops are non-upgradeable as it is, Apple ones are far from being an exception.

Looks like everyone is right, you simply can't put a graphics card in a Macbook, and here is some reasoning why:


In that case, you probably have a regular MacBook, where it doesn't have a 9400m, and it is impossible to even try to put it in there.

But yeah, the MacBook is not upgradable. Just get wait for the new MacBook Pros (coming out in a month or so).
