Headphones Help

I'm currently in the mood for buying headphones, but I don't know what to buy.

note: I'm not after another Skullcandy.

Avoid Sennheisers - the bass is way too muddy.

Look at a pair of Audio Technica AD700's - I've got a pair and they're definitely the best I've heard in terms of clarity and vibrance. The soundstage much nicer than most other headphones too.

Well basically it comes down to if you are and audiophile or not, there is the in-ear headphones to the ear cups, there are so many selections. I am using a 5 year old plantronics headset right now. Not really sure what model it is because I can't find it anymore but its a behind the head design that rests on the ears. Only problem is the ear covers wore off and you sometimes have to flick the microphone a few times to stop it from buzzing but otherwise the sound and the bass are superior than the other headphones that I have lying around. I can wear these things for about 5 hours before they start to annoy me - very comfortable. I can't really point you to a specific one but try the plantronics brand at least.

But if your just looking for headphones with your mp3 player I suggest a pair of Sonys in-the-ear with bass booster. They look kinda weird and actually go inside your ear a little bit but they sound awesome and are actually really comfortable. You can find these at your local department store.

NOTE TO EVERYONE: the headphones I'm looking for are for MP3 players, not computer.

$130 for headphones. You must be nuts.
Remember your extremely lucky if your headphones happens to last you a couple years. Just get a name brand pair for $30 so you know they aren't garbage and it won't hurt your pocketbook that hard when you end up losing them or breaking them. Your headphones are only as good as the device they are plugged into.

You specifically looking for headphones or IEM's (In Ear Monitors)?

For your MP3 player id recommend getting some IEM's.

Also is it $130 USD? And it is very important to know your music taste before recommending you some headphones. This is because different headphones/IEM's have different sound signatures to suit different types of music.




And sir, you are the one that is crazy. Your statement of "headphones are only as good as the device they are plugged into" shows that you know absolutely nothing about sound devices, so please refrain from talking crap.

A good pair of quality headphones will last you at least 2 years if you take care of them properly. For IEM's depending how you take care of them, winding cord around the player etc, a year and a half or so. It is only the budget $30 headphones/IEM's that will break in under a year.



Really depends on the model of Sennheisers, some are good, some are bad. Some have good bass most don't though. Depending on the model, type of music this user likes, Sennheisers might be the best choice for him.

I also have a pair of Audio Technica AD700's too. Absolutely superb for gaming, not so much for music though.

Haven't checked the price of Audio Technica's here in the Philippines. Will definitely check it out. For now I have an AKG K44 since that's the one I can afford at the moment.

The HD 555 is a fantastic headphone, although I wouldn't call it that portable...

I pick Sennheiser IE 7 In-Ear Monitor Earphones

Depends on the music. For trance, metal etc - I agree. Not so great.

For Jazz, Blues, Club jazz and more treble-based music, fantastic.


Sennheisers I found had not enough bass response for what I listen to. Which is more reliant on quick, agile bass as opposed to phat doof doof.

For MP3 player headphones however, keep in mind spending more than 200 on a decent set is moot as most mp3 devices don't provide that good a sound. (I believe one or two of the creative devices and some older ipods, iriver shoot out decent ranges, but it's still muddy as crap compared to a DAC and a decent headphone amp)

Yes, they can be driven by an mp3 player on the go. I'm using them with a d2+ when travelling long distances, and it works just fine. the K501s are also nice, if you can still find them.
Don't bother if you're into Rap or anything similar. These are made for music.

Also, if you want something smaller, the AKG 12P/14P plugs are probably the best-sounding plugs that don't tear up your ear on the market right now.

Overall though, I strongly advise against buying over the internet, without having compared potential models in person. It really is imperative that you try before you buy, as headphone / speaker choice is totally subject to personal taste.

i like actual headphones instead of ear buds... as for producer i would buy anything from sony, they make good stuff
