So I attended my first con over the weekend (Tsubasacon) and went to a concert featuring Lisa Furukawa. She is a singer/songwriter and plays the piano for most of her songs, and it was my first time hearing of her. Apparently she also plays at quite a few other anime conventions. This normally isn't my type of music but I was impressed to the point that I really enjoyed it, she is very talented. She's so patient and polite, and is very playful when she talks between songs. I became an instant fan.
Lisa has quite a few original songs, she translates english songs into japanese, and she also does anime songs. She played songs from Bleach, ending of Wolf's Rain, and the opening to Ghost in the Shell. She even performed the opening to Aqua Teen Hunger Force in japanese, that was very entertaining.
Here is a video of her performing on a show in New Zealand, and the follow-up interview.
Here she is over this weekend playing at Tsubasacon for us. She did a sing-a-long of "Country Roads" in japanese and put the lyrics for the chorus on a board for us. You can faintly hear us actually singing along, I don't think a lot of people wanted to sing in japanese, but it was fun anyway.
Anyway, I wanted to share this with people since I really like her. It's a shame more people aren't in to this kind of music.
