Mercy Killing - Should be legalize or not

You mean euthanasia right? I doubt that they would legalize it but if they do then it should have some heavy restrictions. If a patient is terminally ill and is not at all sane then possibly just maybe. Otherwise, if they have a sliver of a chance to survive than I would say let them live.

Is it weird that my friend thought it sounds like "youth in asia", and doesn't want that to be legalized? <.<

euthanasia is for putting animals down, and I say we leave it as such. If I was going to be in excruciating pain, I'd donate my last days to the cause of SCIENCE!

The only thing that actually complicates this issue seems to be life insurance not covering this type of thing. That and a small bit of ethics. I personally believe a person should have the right to end their own suffering.

i don't think it should be legalized...life is too valuable although it's too painful to be live through...

One of the problems is a person in extreme pain wanting to end there life usaully isn't considered sane enough to consent to assisted suicide - and it isn't like they are going to ask someone else for you. Not unless you are on life support in a brain dead state.

For animals, especially dogs, I think it's alright, I heard dogs die a very painful death from old age. Though, in the case of humans, I disagree with mercy killing, people need to struggle to live to the very end. Dying quietly just seems so boring and such a waste.

Well the problem is deciding when someone should be killed. We see suicide as a "crime" and that people need help if they want to kill themselves. So if someone is in pain and want's to die is it ok? Well hard questions will have to be answered before "Mercy Killing" is allowed.

I think its worth considering. Obviously, if a person can't kill him/herself, it's a lot to ask someone else to do it for them, but if it means that the person won't have to suffer for the remainder of their life, I can't say there's anything wrong with it. If you think there's nothing wrong with letting a person suffer against their own will, you're fucked up, period. Technology might give us a lot more than is naturally afforded to us, but we're still human. Just because we can keep people alive, doesn't mean that we should.

Taking a life is always such a touchy subject, even if a person is terminally ill, or otherwise incapable of surviving without assistance, and begging for someone to kill them because they are physically incapable of doing it themselves. The ironic thing about many of our "advanced" cultures is that when a patient requests a DNR, or whatever, others may be able to take that away because the patient "isn't capable of making that decision for him/herself." We're allowed to hook a person up to machines that feed them and breathe for them, but if you deny them that "privilege," without their consent, you might be fucked, depending on where you are.

It should be permitted under certain circumstances.

An individual should make preparations ahead of time when they are sound of mind. On what course of action they wish the doctors, family and whoever else involved should take. My friends and family all know that if I become incapable of living without a machine such as comatose or even severely brain damaged then they are to "pull the plug". This decision came after the debacle over the Terri Schaivo case of the family trying to prevent her feeding tube from being removed while her husband wanted it removed. All because her (Terri's) wishes were unable to be determined.

If a person makes adequate preparations ahead of time then I believe their wishes should be followed. Their body, their decision, nothing more. I see anybody who wishes to commit suicide because anything other than the highest degree of inability to function in society as nothing more than ultimately selfish and inconsiderate of the feelings of family and friends. Their death affects more than just the person dieing.

You should think long and hard on such a decision because, once they pull the plug that's it, lights out.
