This topic is about the death of Los Angeles Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart. For those who don't live in America, this might very well be the first time you hear of this.
Summary of what happened:
On the morning of April 9, 2009, a man driving a minivan with a suspended license and under the influence of alcohol ran a red light and hit a stationary car, killing three out of four passengers inside, and leaving the survivor in intensive care as of this post. Two people were killed instantly, and one man was rushed in to surgery, where later he was pronounced dead. That man was 22 year old pitcher Nick Adenhart of the Los Angeles Angels.

Just horrible. I've been a consistent baseball fan of 10+ years, and one of the great things about baseball is that it is heavily driven by young players. I've seen countless players get their chance in the big leagues, and make their mark. This guy never got his chance.
May those who died rest in peace and those close to the fallen be able to find some kind of peace someday. You can "get over" a death, by which I mean go through the grieving process and eventually move on in life. But you can't ever forget a death.

I find deaths from people under the influence to be the worst kind.
Because they're the deaths you never can predict and they're the deaths that people joke about when they say 'you could die tomorrow'
They're also the deaths from the most selfish people, I'm very strongly against drunk driving. Because you not only ruined your life just there but you ruined a whole families life - not to mention the person you killed.
I know a girl I used to work with, her boyfriend spent a good amount of time in jail, because he was driving drunk with his mom, who was also drunk and he got into a car accident and his mom died.
He got sent to jail for homicide and reckless driving among other charges they can latch onto it.
That guy will pay dearly for doing that to all those people, especially a pro baseball player - his death was expensive.

damn just now read about this myself, I am baseball fan and as stated, the majors get many promising young players, my sympathies to his friends, fellow players, and family, it is sad to see ppl die at a young age.

The death of any person at all, especially someone so young, in such circumstances is always tragic. Since he was an MLB player, we'll hear a lot about him, but there are many others who pass the same way in relative silence.
I have to say though, I had ESPN on for a minute while they were covering to the story and they cut to Scott Boras crying. I hope he seriously felt that bad. I just had a bit of trouble believing that the most media-whoring money-grubbing agent in baseball was legitimately honoring Adanhart's memory as opposed to putting on a show for the press.

Anyway, I don't live in america so I've not heard of the accident, neither anything about the victim(s).
But it's just plain ''irritating'' when a persons life gets taken away because of a guy jumps in his car and drives off drunk, especially a guy like this, who was just about to hit his big break ( Correct me if I'm wrong).
Wish I could explain it better but my english pretty much limits me down to this.

Sad to see someone so young die especially that way. That driver should get a life sentence for that. He also pitched a pretty good game too. Sure it was the A's but that doens't take anything away from his performance. Too bad the bullpen blew it for him.

I really don't see what the big deal is. It wasn't a natural death, but shit happens and there's nothing we can do to change what has already been done. I'm not gonna sit here and say that its a shame he died so young or that the driver should be gutted, hung from a blimp by his ankles, and flown all around the US, although it would be quite funny.
Shit like this happens all the time and the only reason why anyone is making a big fuss about it is because it was a baseball player. I think its humorous how people are already creating a shitstorm about this and pretty much completely leaving out the fact that 2 other people were killed. Death is the same to me, regardless of who it is. My brother died from cancer when he was 22, 2 years ago yesterday actually, and tomorrow is his birthday. Even though his death was inevitable, had the doctor that was "treating" him done what she was supposed to he could have probably still been alive today. Regardless, the only people that mourned him were the people who knew him and that's about it.
Its a bit fucked up how, on any given day, out of the multitudinous number of people that die, mourning is so selectively limited to such an insignificant fraction, regardless of what standing they had in society.
Roughly 150,000 people die a day.

Well I'll go ahead and say it was a shame he died young. Twenty two is far too young to die, and to hell with social standings. It is an equal shame that both the pitcher and your brother died at such a young age. I've more or less heard the stories of potential treatments that could send cancer into relapse not offered to patients because it might mess up their clinical trial numbers.

Fox's publicity, because his attempts at a cure will inevitably help them. What this does is put these issues back in the spotlight, and for a time, drunk driving will be dealt with harsher penalties, keeping repeat offenders off the roads, and potentially saving an unknown number of lives.
I don't mourn Adenhart's death. What ticks me off is the idea that a drunk driver can serve his time, not learn his lesson, and be let out into the roads again.
