New Monitor

I'm thinking of buying myself a new 23" 1080p monitor for my birthday on Easter. I don't need speakers and I plan on just using the DVI input. So far the best buy I have found is this and it costs $190. Any comments/suggestions on this?

Ah.. nice by its description, it must be a really good one, i like the style it has.

Why would you need a 23in monitor to be 1080p? :/

Maybe he doesn't have an HD tv to hook up to a console.


I've had bad experiences with Acer products...So I steer clear of their brand. But it sounds like a nice deal, go for it.

Got it in the mail and I'm impressed. First time a monitor that I got that I didn't need to tweak the controls to get it to look right. I did have a problem with the computer not recognizing it but then I remembered I have my TV plugged in still and maybe it just switched the default monitor to that and sure enough =X. It does turn on a bit slow and you will miss the BIOS screen if you don't already know to hit the delete key but that shouldn't be a problem. Also, this monitor has an option to handle non widescreen images as either stretch or aspect, therefore any older games that don't have a widescreen option will not get stretched out of proportion. I haven't really found a bad resolution yet while it is still set to aspect but it looks horrible when anything that isn't 16:9 is stretched. And one other thing - no dead pixels! Also, the manufactured date on it is Feb. 09 so I got a brand new one =)

Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase. I'd rather deal with black bars on the right and left side with this monitor than enormous black bars on the top and bottom with my archaic 17" making my widescreen video files tiny.

I actually got this model because at the time of purchase the other one didn't have free shipping and was gonna cost the same and this one has a nice finish and comes with speakers. Both should work fine for the display at least. I haven't tested if the HDMI will carry a sound signal on the one I got because I don't have anything that outputs to HDMI around here. Also, you don't need to have a Tuner in your monitor. If you got satelite or digital cable - they give you a set top box which will output to the monitor. And if you want to watch basic cable or OTA signals - get a tuner card and turn your comp into a dvr for cheaper than buying a monitor with a tuner in it!
