SEED and the the shame that is Destiny

I hold these two as completely separate things because I found SEED to be an awesome series(the best in my opinion) and Destiny well I felt like killing something. I believe that Destiny dragged the SEED name through mud, shit, and all around filth and made an amazing series look bad. Which again is why I hold them separate. Kira Yamato was a fantastic character in SEED realistic in many ways, skilled but not overpowered. He still had many challenges. Destiny not so much they made him a horrid character in many ways. So essentially before Destiny everything was near perfection. What do you think about the above points and please feel free to add in anything I didn't cover and discuss it all.

After rewatching some eps of SEED, I thought it was alright but not the best imo. While it did copy some things from the UC line, things were unique and was acceptable to me. SEED Destiny however, oh wow, I wrote a giant essay on AnimeSuki why SEED Destiny sucked. The beginning showed promise and potential, but during the second half and on, it started to suck. After watching through all of it, it made me think that I was watching SEED all over again. On top of that, having everything completely one sided depending on who was fighting was ridiculous. Kira's fights after he got Strike Freedom became boring and every single battle he fought became predictable. It's basically saying, whichever side Kira fights on, that side will win. I mean just look at the outcome and who won.

These are some questions I like to put out:

As to what transpired, do you honestly think that bringing Kira back along with giving him such a bullshit hax Gundam, completely untouchable to an unrealistic scale, made GSD better excluding the fan service?

Then what of the introduction of the Minerva crew? What was their purpose? Why bother even waste time give them such a half ass development when they'll just be thrown away at the end?

Mu's death in SEED, how did this affect his thunder and epic sacrifice in SEED when he came back in Destiny?

What the fuck is the Destiny plan? The explanation was given like what? Two minutes? Hardly enough time to give us a lay out to how "evil" it was if it was labeled so by Kira's band of friends.

Clip shows / constant flashbacks, what relevance to they have? What's the point of having a sequel when half of the time we get flashbacks over and over?

Destroy Gundams, useless cannon fodder MS of destruction huh?

Agreed. All fights after Strike Freedom were boring and one sided. When Kira went serious on Rey that fight lasted what 4 seconds? I couldn't find a more boring fight in all of gundam. In SEED he was constantly challenged grunts were no problem but go up against an ace and it lasted a long time and he never came out unscathed. The final battle in SEED Kira vs Rau was the most epic battle in gundam I have ever seen. With Ribbons vs Setsuna second. Final battle of Destiny Kira vs Rey, it takes more time to take out a grunt.

Destiny has more of story recap from seed. The series didn't come up with my expectations.

lets not forget Shinn, angry kid, blind rage, quite literally teleports the impulse and destiny. Cagalli and Athrun were almost useless. Kira and Lacus were pretty *yawn* too. Mega rushed end. Super mass destruction weapons that randomly popup as the series comes to an end.


IMO, they didn't have the budget they needed, but wanted to satisfy the fans of haxxor gundams but not fans for the story.

I'm sure they sell more merchandise of kits than of DVD's, I'm probably one of those suckers. (Despite my discontent for the series, I still have 4 1/100 scale GSD kits)


Also didn't think Lunamaria served any purpose than to be eye candy. She didn't do anything special. Meyrin as well got special time devoted to her but she did something (sort of).

Some of my friends and me watched GSD for the "gundam" action, not the story value. Since Kira took a popularity leap start from GS, this series was more like a stage for him to show off when he suddenly came back. When I watched GSD the first time with my friends in school, I didnt care much about the story, I just wanted to see some mindless cool gundam action, every episode we were just anticipating the action. We would go wowww waawwww just because it looks so damn cool. But meh, as I grow older and common sense and logic enters my mind, i tend to care more about the story factor and would punch my teenage self and call him a simple prick if I saw myself from the past.

I may have come to a conclusion that, GSD anime is much more of a service animation that is mostly fully enjoyed by people who has not achieve mental age of consent, its in for the "cool" action then story, [size=1]much like some bleachfags i have in my circle of friends [/h]

Conclusion? GSD = quite a fan service anime, nothing for story.....

SEED Destiny took everything that was good about SEED and took it out. Except suit design. GOUF Igniteds are the SEX.

Take Kira. A moderately acceptable protagonist (if badly written, with no clear motivation and undergoing a brief midseries personality switch into a complete DICK instead of a complete BABY) becomes a haxx death machine who doesn't even need to try against the NEW PROTAGONIST and has even less personality than before.

Which leads me inexorably to Shinn. The less said about Shinn the better. I'm actually a little tired of writing anti-Shinn essays on forums, so I might hold this one in =p Let's just say he's no Athrun. But then, in Destiny, neither is Athrun.He's a tagalong who gets a new suit because he happened to be important in the last show.

Which leads me further onto Cagalli. One of the strongest characters of SEED due to her flaws and overcoming of them (unlike Lacus, who is just a Super Battleship Princess) is reduced to almost nothing for little to no reason.

The point I think I'm trying to make here is that the character development, which I consider the most important part of any Gundam show (...Oh shit, the robots. Okay, those too =p), was WOEFULLY lacking in Destiny. We went from "horrors of war" to "O NOES, FAEK PRINSESS?!" And Shinn.

Guh. I'm off to watch Stargazer.
