Mmkay, so I have a conundrum for you tech savvy peoples of FAKKU; I have an old as fuck hard drive sitting on my desk next to my computer. To interate how incredibly old it is, I will describe it: it is not only larger than some netbooks and ultra-portable laptops, but it weighs more than them too. It has only 10 gigs of storage space, an RPM speed of only about 5000, and is housed not in a conventional plastic casing, but in a solid metal case that feels like a fucking brick. HOWEVER, it has Microsquash Windows 95 loaded up on it as its OS. So should I trash it and disassemble it, or keep it as a testament to what computers used to be like a decade ago?

It's your call. I still have my 1GB hdd with Windows 3.11 in my room which makes a good paperweight.

Keep it I've still got a 1980s era hard drive sitting around makes for a really heavy paperweight.

I still have my old Win95 computer (and it still works). I suggest you keep it, or scrap it if you wanna get the gold out of it.

lol I would say save it, but I just stopped being a pack rat and got rid of a lot of things like that.

Sure, it might make for a good paper weight... But really: will it be that good?
Memories are great, but that's because they are past events we no longer need to deal with(or find room for).

Now a days you can buy the same kinds of insanely strong magnets, but there is just nothing that beats using original HD magnets to hang an entire block of paper on your refrigerator :D

Nah mate the EMP blast will mess over anything with electronics in it unless it's protected with a Faraday cage of some sort and nothing leading into it from the outside otherwise your Faraday cage would be useless.
Or extremely hardened against electromagnetic radiation in which case the machine is not at all modern.

I'd like to keep it but it'd take up space so then I'd throw it away and then regret throwing it away.

Install Linux on it.

Keep it. Just think that it's a precious collection~
