Ultimately, to lose weight is a two-pronged front: dieting and excercising. You won't lose the weight alone by dieting, at least you won't see the results anytime soon if you do that.

I find that to lose weight, don't eat too much meat and begin exercising. If you eat a lot of meat and exercise, you can turn that meat into muscle, while losing fat, which in turn would make you gain weight. I'd say just eat less for each meal slowly. Just try and stave off the hunger, so your body adjusts to the lower amount being eaten.
For the exercise I'd recommend, I'd say running to build stamina, and proper swimming to lose waistline. Also, a martial art would help immensly.
Provide your height and where you think your body weight is most centered at, and I can help some more.
EDIT: And I'm not sure if it helps too much, but I never drink anything besides water and gatorade anymore. Also, instead of eating big meals 3 times a day, try 5 small meals.
