We all have hobbies, or at least, things we find enjoyable. We do these things a lot for some, and rarely for others. Not everyone likes the same kinds of things, or enjoys the same activities. This diversity has allowed endless amounts of different hobbies, sports, entertainment, and games to flourish.
The questions I pose to you within this post are. 'what hobbies/activities do you most enjoy'?, and 'would you prefer to keep your hobby as just a hobby, or would you use it as your career as well'?
As for myself, I most enjoy writing stories and sketching. I wouldn't write professionally, since I'm not confident I can make a living, but I will and already do sell my artwork, so that I can sustain an (almost) minimum wage living. I live in a small, cheap studio on my own in a coastal town in Oregon, so rent's not too bad out here ($425 for my studio).
Enough about my own personal preferences though, what about all of you?
I'm really into writing and the dream is to one day become actual journalist and make a living off of it.
But for now I'm just stuck with painting houses in the Australian to pay bills while I work on University!
I don't really find any of my other hobbies all that productive. I enjoy learning new things so I do spend a lot of free time researching what ever has gotten into my head that day. Unfortunately, a short attention span often has me jumping between too many topics at once to really retain any of that information for longer than a week at most.
Always trying to cook something else is definitely productive. I feel it's going to be worthwhile, especially when I'm travelling.
Auto work speaks for itself; Saving an exorbitant amount of money every time you need something done on your car, being able to pick up work and help out others when they need something fixed.
I have no productive hobbies. I mostly play games (frequent go-tos are RuneScape, Elder Scrolls Online, Minecraft and Dragon Ball Xenoverse), watch shit (anime, soaps, films) and procrastinate hard.
I mean if I get something out of what I do then I find it to be productive.
Dance/exercise - keeps me in shape and keeps me happy
Watching anime/movies/tv/reading books of any kind - makes me happy and gives me something to talk about
Cooking - keeps me fed and can help do the same for others
I don't really think about how productive my hobbies are, my main thing is just doing things that I personally enjoy and if others enjoy it or it can become beneficial in someway then that's a bonus.
I turn my hobby into a career. Photography makes some good scratch until people don't have money(california central valley is ag based so no water, no jobs, no money). I farm my own food and make some cash selling it... mostly hot sauce and spice blends. Plus i to love fish so i always have fresh food to eat.
Any hobby that can get you to a professional level without going to "[INSERT HOBBY] school". Fixing bikes and pc hardware for example can be one, or taking pictures as mentioned (that's more like an issue of right tools, so the money go to a good camera) or making music. Programming works too but you'll eventually still need to get your qualifications. Ironically I'm not sure about scanlations, I've seen total scrubs making it to the "pros" only because they sucked up to the right people.
Sometimes if I am really in the mood I enjoy writing random crap. Create a story in my head of a character and put him in a situation. And write my way out of that situation like a little adventure story. Fun practice I guess.
Mountain biking. It's a workout and a meditation all in one package. Alternatively, if you want something more productive than encouraging my own well being, I enjoy consulting. Over the years I've earned a reputation for being a jack of all trades. You know the type, master of none but if you squint, I'm so pro. Well, I love finding solutions to problems. I encourage my friends and family to talk to me about whatever so we can brainstorm. And if I can help with whatever results we come up with? Even better.
Hobby right now is gaming and sleeping. Military enlistment failed and since then I haven't really been active.
so I'm trying to change that by trying to take up more "Productive" hobbies like space exploration, writing, expanding intelligence, and really quick ways to get rich (legally).
ive had offers for vaping. like sponsors. loans if i wanna open a line. but. i enjoy it as just a hobby.
gaming. eh. If i thought i was good enough. being above average isnt good enough.
I have cooked for the past 5 years. making many dishes. ranging from short order bar cooks to mid range restaurants. to 1 5* rest. and well. i got tired of it. i wasnt enjoying it anymore.
my hobbies dont make me happy when they have to deal with other people and i have to change things up to please them all. lol
I write, dabble in gfx, still learning to draw and code. I plan on someday finishing my script and turning it into a video game. If that doesn't work out, I have no choice but to inherit the family business.
Writing, whenever I some free time to work with. Been trying off and on for the past ten years to write a novel, but I battle constantly with writer's block, so my efforts are hampered the more I try. My other hobbies (gaming, designing, etc) are not what you would consider productive in the grand scheme of things. Then again, I do have 1500+ hours on Team Fortress 2 since 2008 o_O
I dont have a productive hobby, but my mom love wood working. She carves and wood burns decorations and give them out to family and friends. She likes making something that people can enjoy for a long time. I envy her about that, wish i could make something that someone can enjoy for a while.
