You Can't Truly Love Another Until You Truly Love Yourself

See topic. What do you think of that statement? If you do not love yourself, is then the love you have for another person maybe more of a admiration for someone you think is better than you? Can love be equal if you do not love yourself?

Do you love yourself/like what kind of person you are? Why do you love your better half?

If that statement is true then I'm screwed.

I hate myself more than anything. But I can still show empathy for people more or less.

Then again, empathy isn't the same as love.

anyway, it's pretty much true. well i'm just guessing that, since all the shoujo manga i read, have Person A who doesn't like themself, finds Person B who truly likes them. Person B shows them that they can like themself, and then the Person A falls in love with Person B, who loves them.

=3 Yea, change them kinda often, when I find a new cute one. This one had a lot of time put in it though, had to printscreen it, delete backgrounds and ad the... ball-snowflings-shit stuff by myself. Usually I just resize a pic =P

Anyway, I get off track when I'm flattered. Haha, so you base it on manga? Guess that's true though, happends like that alot.

I have personally started to like myself more and more the last 2 years or so, before that I totally hated myself. I think that it is true in the way that it is hard to find harmony in a relationship where one person hates him/herself. It will just make both parties sad. But yea, hopefully the one you love can help you to love yourself.

agreed. i used to dislike myself a lot for being a weakling and a push-over but being lame was just natural to me, i realized that when i was rejected. the rejection was supposed to hurt me a lot, since he was actually a guy who made my heart "doki doki" but what hurt me, was that everyone was making fun of me when he rejected me, rather than the rejection itself. i guess i just didn't like him for him, and only wanted to fit in with all the little fads of girls with boyfriends. but now, i know i'm lame, weak, and that i'm a pretty pathetic excuse of a person (lol) but i've come to accept that. i wouldn't say i totally "love" myself, but i've gotten to like myself more than i've ever had before. it's surprising what a rejection can do, good or bad XD heck, that guy who rejected me, i never hated him once... but it's sad that he's ignoring me now XD

On good days though, I usually just accept who I am.

To tell the truth I hate myself as well since I can't do anything and nor do I have the courage to do something when I need to and so I really hate myself and I had never came to like myself either and probably no one likes me either and I know that i'm a loser is because they always say things like that to me

I don't hate myself but I do put myself down and have a lot of self confidence issues. No matter how many of my friends tell me how awesome I am I always manage to find a fault ^^ so I guess I'm a negative thinker hard not to be since every so often I can hear girls talking behind my back just cause my appearance which is apparently cute to some of my friends xD but hell if I know anyways I agree love for yourself is really important ^^

Well I don't think the statement is really true, I've loved people without truly loving myself.

True, I used to have a much worse opinion about myself then I do now but I wouldn't say I love how I am but then again it's not like other people are better then me because of it. I like to consider myself a pretty decent person, I'm generally kind (somewhat cold but kind in general) towards mostly everybody, I'm polite, etc. I don't really see what I could I change to make me "love myself", sure this'll probably change when I reach more of the goals I've set for myself. However in the end (due to things that have happened) I guess the only time I'll probably really like who I am is when somebody else will truly love me for who I am, and not for their own selfish goals.
