~ A Predicament Few Seconds Before An Accident Happened ~

What would you do supposed you're experiencing this :

You're living in a small-but-fairly-populated town.
You're driving home from work on a two-way road with no stone border between.
You're not in a hurry so you're just driving slowly, about 30-40 km/hour.
Added information, you're driving on the left side of the road which consisted only of a single track, so it's the opposite direction on your right, and barren earth on your left.

Then quite suddenly from the opposite direction you saw a truck trying to overlap a bigger vehicle in front of it, with an unusual speed as the driver were quite in a hurry.
The worst thing is, the driver didn't consider slowing down even after he saw your car on his opposite direction.
If both vehicles maintained our speed, we could collide about 3-5 seconds later, stepping on the brake was not an option, since it's a single track.
The only way to prevent accident was just to slide on your left, to steer into the barren earth.

Unfortunately you couldn't get away so easily. On your left you spotted two little kids coming home from school trudged on the barren earth, unaware of your situation.

So then you're left with two options, will you :

1. Steer to your left , taking the risk of running over those innocent kids , or
2. Stay on the track , stepping on the brake or challenging the crazy driver into one on one match , brake or not you're risking your own life.


Which of those two choice would you prefer ?

Well, I'm hard pressed to know what to do. You don't mention about the right side of the road, so I'll assume its blocked as well (and for the sake of argument, impassable to a 1.5 ton car).

-If you run over the kids then you save yourself but you carry the heavy risk of vehicular manslaughter (2 counts) as even though your life was in danger it's not legal to kill to save your skin.

-Try and brake and swing the passenger side to take the brunt of the force. If possible, handbrake/J-turn around so there will be maximum crumplage so as to save your skin.

In 3-5 seconds worth of time at driving 30 mph there is more than enough space to avoid the kids. The main issue is making them not move. I would risk running over the kids and blast my horn as I was heading in their direction to use a "deer in headlights technique" to prevent them for running around.

I'd open the door, aim for the dirt and jump out of the car, letting it smash in the oncoming truck.
Rolling down the street at 35 km/h might be a little painful, but I think it's better than certain death or life imprisonment. Besides, if the news covered my story, there's always the possibility of someone paying for my medical expenses (assuming my survival).

FUCK THE KIDS.
Not really though, I would probably open the window, yell at the kids to haul ass, honk loudly, and steer left off the street.

If I only had about 3-5 seconds I would honk my horn really loudly to get the kids to move as far away as possible for them while braking. Then when they started to move Id turn and just take the clip to the back of my car.

The accident wouldnt have been my fault and the kids should have been safe.


Buuuut if I dont have time Ill likely just try to get into reverse as fast as possible, or just say sorry kids and haul ass out of there.

I would bail out of the car.

I'd do what Neo and Morpheus did in Matrix Reload... Jump up right before the 2 cars hit and watch them turn into cracker.

I would teleport. But seriously I would face the car at the truck and jump...but then that would make me look like a terrorist to the kids...poor truck driver

Id lodge the gas pedele down and crash right into the on comeing car. Why puts maximum distance between wreck and children. Also for all i know the truck hauling hazardous material so i dont want it to wreck. And driveing faster would cause the other drive less damage. So ultimately im putting my own life at greater risk to save 4.(and posibly prevent some kind of toxic waste spill)

The problem is , in my country the driver seat is on the right side ,
so we opt to jump out of the car , we will be faced with tens of vehicles coming from the oppsite direction , AKA fail ....... T_T

I have 3-5 seconds, which is more than enough to swerve to the opposite side (beyond the oncoming lane) and only waste myself.

(I'm bullshitting you, I've survived worse)

There goes my plan...

But still, reaching the passenger seat's door in 3-5 seconds should be doable, if you don't panic.

Then it's a FAIL for me , in 3-5 seconds the best thing I can do is honking and getting ready to swear "Fuuuuu...." *crash*

That's a hard situation... I'd Try the handbrake, steer to the left, try an u-turn.
Assuming the kids are not to close. Blow the horn as hard as can be.
-> Reducing colliding speed, more room between the car and myself.
Try a little prayer... damn I'm not religious...
Just hope for the best, don't let me die!

I'd yell GET THE HELL OUT OF THE CAR(in very cinematic fashion) and-*crash*

Really though, I would probably fuck myself in some way, since i'd probably get nervous...

My life has greater importance than those kids.
